Rainbow Dash

Rainbow Dash is a pegasus pony who loves speed, racing, and showing off her aerial maneuvers. She longs to become a member of Equestria's famous flying troupe, The Wonderbolts, but for now she works with other pegasi in Ponyville to control weather.

Her cutie mark is a cloud with a rainbow-colored lightning bolt, symbolizing her great speed.

She is played by Ashleigh Ball, who also plays Applejack.

Background

Rainbow Dash has long been a competitive pony, even during her school days. She was enrolled at the Junior Speedster flight camp, where she met both Fluttershy, a fellow pegasus, and Gilda, a griffin. Both will become close friends, though each differed in personality. One day, Rainbow protected Fluttershy from bullies, who would mock them both equally for their failures. So to protect her friends' honor, Rainbow challenged the bullies to a race, which she easily beat them at. During the race, she became the first (and so far only) pegasus to pull off a Sonic Rainboom: in which a enormous circular rainbow is created after a pegasus breaks the sound barrier.

But despite her achievements, Rainbow Dash eventually left flight school: either from dropping out or being expelled. Eventually, she made her way to Ponyville, where she got a job with the Pegasi Weather Team. While there, she met a visiting Twilight Sparkle, who was sent to check up on her work for an upcoming festival. Later, she proves her loyalty to Twilight, and to her friends, during the Nightmare Moon affair. She has since become a good friend to the girls.

Personality

Rainbow Dash is an archetypal tomboy. She's boisterous, athletic, and even outspoken, with very little "girlish" demeanor. Because of her attitude, fans have speculated, and joked, that she is a lesbian, but this has not been confirmed; nor is the a chance that it will ever be covered. Despite being athletic and energetic, Rainbow Dash also has a tendency to slack off. Additionally, she takes failure, or even the smallest idea of failure, poorly: at times displaying a lack of confidence and even cheating.
