The Viper is a WWE Superstar known for his snake-like movements in the ring and unleashing his RKO finisher out of nowhere. He is the current World Heavyweight Champion.

Overview

Randy Orton debuted in the WWE on April 25, 2002 on SmackDown where he had a match against Hardcore Holly. He established himself as a face through his feud with Holly. In September, he was drafted to the RAW brand but shortly after suffered a shoulder injury which sidelined him from in-ring action. While he recovered, he interrupted episodes of RAW with segments called the "Randy News Network", updating people on his status. Through these segments, he started to transition into a heel, only caring about himself.

After Orton was fully recovered in 2003, he became a member of Evolution along with Triple H, Ric Flair, and Batista. The group dominated RAW, even to the point where they held all of the men's championships simultaneously. Orton worked with the other members to ensure that above all else, Triple H remained the World Heavyweight Champion.

During this time, Orton began to call himself "The Legend Killer." He believed he was the future of wrestling and would prove his greatness by eliminating legendary wrestlers of the past. He attacked such legends as Shawn Michaels, Harley Race, and Mick Foley.

At SummerSlam 2004, Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit to win his first World Heavyweight Championship and become the youngest person to hold a world title in WWE history at age 24. However, Triple H became jealous and kicked him out of Evolution. Weeks later, he would defeat Orton for the championship.

In 2005, Orton challenged The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania 21. However, he was not able to kill the legend of The Undertaker and lost. Months later Orton was drafted to SmackDown and continued to feud with him, leading up to a Hell in a Cell Match at Armageddon.

In 2006, he formed an alliance with Edge to form a group called Rated-RKO after Edge had been experiencing trouble with a newly reformed D-Generation X. They were successful in taking them on, including winning the World Tag Team Championship. After both men began pursuing the WWE Championship, their alliance ended.

In 2008 he formed a new group called The Legacy with Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. He worked to mentor them as well as use them as his lackeys. They helped him gain and retain the WWE Championship on several occasions, as well as win the 2009 Royal Rumble Match, which resulted in him later losing in a WWE Championship Match against Triple H at The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. A year later as Orton was attempted to again win the championship, the relationship with The Legacy broke down. This led to a Triple Threat Match between the members at WrestleMania XXVI in which Orton won.

From here, Randy Orton became a face again. Orton would again win the WWE Championship, keeping it away from the new threat of Wade Barrett and The Nexus. However, it would be The Miz who cashed in his Money in the Bank title opportunity after a Nexus attack where he would lose the championship. After failing to regain the championship, CM Punk, the new leader of The Nexus, would go after Orton for revenge when he and The Legacy had attacked him in the past to cost him his World Heavyweight Championship. Orton would go on to defeat Punk at WrestleMania XXVII after eliminating the other members of The Nexus during the weeks leading up to the event.

In April 2011, Orton was drafted to SmackDown in the WWE Draft. A week later, he defeated nearly-crowned champion Christian to once again become World Heavyweight Champion.
