Let's face it, your enjoyment of this film is entirely determined by your ability to withstand groan inducing cheese. The third '
Conan' film does everything a little half-assed, including securing the rights to the 'Conan' name, thus
Schwartzenegger, who still has top billing, is referred to as 'Kalidor'. The acting all-around is atrocious, and the directing was either incredibly 'loose' or Fleischer decided to go for laughs. But the best humor here is the unintentional laughs - when the film actually aims for comedy it generally lands around six year old level. All of which is not to say the film is a complete loss - it probably won't bore you if you like the genre at all, and it has some great sword fights. Actually it is no worse than most of the
Republic adventure serials of the 40s, and if you enjoy such things, you're sure to enjoy this. Unfortunately, though it was a box office disaster, it still inspired a spate of ensemble cast adventure films that were even weaker. Watch it on a Saturday afternoon with some friends, a big bowl of popcorn and a few longnecks on ice.
