A grizzled, world-wear blade runner responsible for tracking down illegal replicants in 2019 Los Angeles.
Rick Deckard is a longtime member of the Los Angeles Police Department's blade runner unit., tasked with hunting down and "retiring" illegal replicants. Having recently retired from active duty, he is summoned by his old boss, Lt. Harry Bryant, to deal with a group of escaped Nexus-6 units.
There is some intense fan debate about whether Deckard is a human or a replicant. Various aspects of the Blade Runner Director's Cut seem to indicate that Deckard may be a replicant with implanted memories, similar to Rachel. The most definitive "proof" for this theory is the scene of Deckard falling asleep at his piano and dreaming of a galloping unicorn. This adds particular resonance to the origami unicorn Gaff leaves in Deckard's doorway at the end of the film. The debate rages on, despite Ridley Scott's public admission that he believes Deckard is a replicant.
