The meanest box on the periodic table.
The meanest box on the periodic table.

Salt did pretty respectably at the box office, earning around $300 million worldwide, so it's no surprise that Sony might want to produce a sequel; the only surprise might be that Angelina Jolie is actually interested. She's been pursued for a Wanted sequel for a few years now, but has apparently not been eager to hop back on that train, especially considering...well, you know...what happened to her character in the first film.

Salt, however, sees her character end the film on the run and eager to kick some more ass, and Sony seems like they'd be just as happy to have that happen; as such, they've hired Kurt Wimmer, writer of the first film (and, lest you forget, writer/director of Ultraviolet as well) to pen a sequel for them.

I actually dug Salt a fair amount when I caught it on Netflix; there are some deceptive plot twists that were handled fairly well, and it's always fun to see Jolie in ass-kicking mode, especially when she's not weighed down by a silly accent or stunts that are a bit too outrageous to be believed. We likely won't see Salt II: Pure Sodium until 2013 at the earliest, but that feels like a decent amount of time between the two films. What'd you think of Salt, though? Eager to see a sequel, or were you happy enough just to watch the first film and be done with it?

Why not? Perfectly disposable entertainment from what I remember.

I like Salt! Here's hoping the sequel will be as good or better.

That sums up my thoughts. There was nothing terrible about Salt, and made good money, so why not?

I wasn't a fan of the original.  I felt it fell apart in the second half, but I like Jolie and support women in action rolls, so I'm game to give it a second chance.

Somebody remind me which of the three versions of the film was canon?

For some reason I thought it was known that it was going to have a sequel.

Oh good at least Jolie wont have to act as a new character she can just use the same one shes been using since 2001.

Bad idea. Salt got pretty good reviews (62% RT) but it was a terrible, almost unwatchable film is absolutely brain dead plot. What was worse it that whatever Jolie has done to herself since the Tomb Raider films (has she gone vegan?) has made her skinny has to not be even somewhat believable as an action star. The girl looks so brittle I expect to break a bone running much less jumping, etc.

Someone needs to re-introduce her to meat and have lift some damn weights if they are going to do action films.

That said, this franchise should have just faded away.

I don't see a point to a sequel but whatever, right hollywood?

I expected this. I really liked the first as well and thought they should have delved into the backstory more. That is the part of the original that I thought was the best part.

The only reason I liked the first movie was as a setup, so I think I want a sequel as a way to redeem the first.

I enjoyed the movie in the theatre and picked it up on blu ray. Good action, interesting twists and above all: fair acting. I look forward to seeing a second movie, even if I have to wait a few years (gasp!)

Ah, that reminds me that Salt has been sitting in my Instant Queue since it came on Netflix. Maybe I'll watch it today.

I'm the only one here that fucking hates Salt and also I didn't like Wanted too

The action in Salt was entirely unsatisfying and the characters were an absolute bore. Well, that's just my opinion. I wouldn't mind a sequel if the action sequences were a little more...fluent and a little less stiff and mechanical.
