Michael Cera Miscast?

Does anyone else who's read the books agree that Michael Cera is horribly miscast as Scott Pilgrim? I mean I haven't seen the movie, all I've seen is the trailers, but he;s doign that whole awkward teenage boy thing AGAIN. It was funny in Arrested Development, and in Superbad, but here it doesn't fit the character at all. Its more or less his Blue Steel, he's got nothing else, although I hear he breaks out a little in Youth in Revolt but I haven't gotten around to watching that. What do you think?

I don't know. He looks like he'll pull it of ok ....... I mean who else would you pick tho?

The only other person that could probably pull off Scott Pilgrim that I can think of is maybe Aaron Johnson from Kick-Ass. Other than that, I really don't know.

Not at all.  The latest clip proves that he can pull off the action.  He's set.

Edgar Wright's directing is enough for me to watch, but I still am a bit scared on Cera's ability... but based on what I've seen, we should be okay. It's the general humor Cera has been associated with in the past that I'm scared of. I expect Wright's humor full-fledgedly slapping me across the face whilst I paint anger, aggression, pain, and fear.

I like the guy. From what I've seen of the movie so far, I think he's capable of pulling it off.

I think he'll be fine.  I might have preferred to see Jesse Eisenberg in the role, as I great;y prefer his acting chops to Michael Cera's awkward nature, but I think i'll be all right.

This is kinda how I feel about it to. Whatever pangs & doubts I have about Cera are overwritten by my faith & love in Edgar Wright.

@Kombat:   Good choice, and this might sound weird, I also could kinda see Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing it, too.  He's not quite right in the looks department, but he's good at the "average guy who's still kind of cool" thing.

and agreed he would have been great

I'm really bored with Michael Cera. He was great in Superbad, but he has played the exact same character in every single one of his movies ever since. Also, Youth in Revolt is a very dull movie and is more than deserving of its box-office bomb status.

I'll agree that Jesse Eisenberg is a superior actor and is less.... weird.

I'm thinking this is the role he was born to play. That being said, it may be the last role he'll ever be good in.

Michael Cera is more of a badass, while Scott Pilgrim is a little wimpier. Horribly obvious miscast.

@TheFaithfullyDeparted:  This. The only thing I saw Micheal Cera in was Arrested Development and Superbad. I have no "hate" on him. I must say though that unless that AD movie is crap, this is most likely be the best movie he will ever do.

He's exactly the guy I was thinking of. Scott Pilgrim was more of a "look out for number 1" badass, I don't know if Michael Cera can pull that off.

i felt like this at first but after seeing it, he does a great job as my favorite comic book character scott pilgrim . that jesse guy would have done way worse. he is a lot more awkward than micheal cera and in a way worse way. Ceras awkwardness ended up kinda being compatible with the scott pilgrim awkwardness. also Ceras hair is closer to scotts than anyone else considered in this thread
