Well, the movie was pretty much everything I thought was gonna be. Everything was very visually exciting and highly entertaining and the gags were really sharp and hilarious. A lot of the humor from the books comes from visual gags and the film pulls that off really well, with several jokes translated directly from the pages of the book.
I'm generally not a Michael Cera fan but he was pretty much the perfect Scott Pilgrim. The rest of the cast was also pretty spot on, especially Kieran Culkin. His portrayal of Wallace Wells was a definite highlight of the movie. The only part of the cast I had a bit of a problem with was Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Ramona. In the books, Ramona actually seems like a girl worth fighting for. Her and Scott get along and play off each other with great affection. In the movie, Ramona just comes off like a sarcastic, apathetic person who seems like she really couldn't care whether or not she actually gets with Scott or not. Just kinda bland.
What's not bland are the fight scenes. From the first fight with Matthew Patel to the final showdown with the Gideon Graves, each fight is a sight to behold. Very vibrant very entertaining to watch. I hate to throw around the phrase "like a real life video game" because it's really cheesy, but they are.
So yeah, I really liked Scott Pilgrim. A lot. Between that and The Expendables, it's been a hell of a weekend for fun, extremely entertaining movies. Can I bribe someone to get me the blu ray for both of these already?
