MGM Execs On Bond Franchise: Shut It Down. Shut It Down Forever.

Bond will be back someday.  Even if it is like 10-15 years down the road it has been to profitible and loved series to die forever.

Honesty Sony should just buy that franchise from MGM when they sell it, I like the direction the Bond movies have been taking and I have a hard time seeing the James Bond series ever going away. Also they can't milk Spiderman forever.

I can't say that I'm that surprised or distraught over this news.  Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace were great films -- well, okay, the second one there was only sort of good -- and they'd serve as interestingly high notes for the series to go out on.  It'd be impossible to claim with any level of sincerity that Bond hasn't had a good run over the years.  If they were to pull the plug now, I can't say that I wouldn't be satisfied with the quantity and (general) quality of the franchise.

But it won't stay dead even if MGM's execs pull the trigger on this.  Bond has too much of a legacy going for it, and even if it disappears for the foreseeable future, it'll be back in a decade or so.

Damn, it's shocking to hear that even a Bond movie is having trouble being made. Bummer, since I really like the direction it's been going in.

Ironically, the only Bond films I could get into were the last two. I liked the direction the series was taking with Craig, and I hope someone buys up the franchise, but I wouldn't exactly lose sleep over it if nobody did.

I'm a little late to the party but how exactly did MGM find themselves in this terrible situation? Was it overspending on bad movies, because I can't think of any projects they've done that were terrible enough to have lost this amount of money, or was it just boardroom business deals gone bad.

Either way I'd appreciate it if they borrow the money to finish these pictures or just sell the rights to someone else because I really want to see these movies!

@Kombat: Even if Bond has to take a break at this point I have no doubt that he would return at some stage. This isn't the sort of franchise you give up on for good.

I'll trade my apartment for EON productions.

Plus side for MGM: They can move out of their (probably) huge offices and homes into a 2-bedder/office, saving what could be MILLIONS (nfi) of dollars.
Downside for MGM: None.
Plus side for me: I OWN BOND.
Downside for me: I have no where to sleep.

Kinda makes me glad, there hasn't been a good bond film in years. Daniel Craig isn't James Bond, he's a bouncer in a tux.
