I've only watched the first couple of seasons before I fell behind and never caught up. I liked it though so I will try to watch it again eventually. Also that video is really well done.

My dad loves Superman and loves Smallville. So naturally I've caught a few episodes with him and had him explain backstory I was missing.

It's pretty neat to have such a back story explored but I also feel like they dragged on the seasons for a bit too long.

If I had the money I'd buy him the entire series package that I know is coming out.

No, me and Smallville never really got along.

I watched like the first season and a bit of 2 but I want Superman not Clark Kent learning to be come Superman while doing Superman like things. Ya know? From what I've read they've gone really far with the mythology and bringing in a bunch of DCU stuff.

@TopSteer: Thanks a lot man and trust me like I said the show gets waaaaaaaaay better @FinalDasa: Yeah they definitely dragged in fact I would say the first two seasons aren't even good and the third season is pretty ok but the fourth season and onward are really good in my opinion.

I gave that show about 7 seasons.  Nothing remotely Supermanish ever happened.  How did Smallville last for over 10 years and good CW/WB/UPN shows like Reapers and Veronica Mars not make it?

I watched about the first 7 seasons, but after a while it got so convoluted I couldn't be bothered to follow it anymore. This blatant product placement episode was the final straw:

I was thinking about this just yesterday. Smallville is one of those shows that I was really deeply into for a good long time and now I have absolutely no desire to ever sit through another episode again. I am a fan of Superman and used to collect the comics when I was younger. I'm sure I've seen practically every episode of the 1950's Adventures of Superman, Lois and Clark, the New Adventures of Superman and Superman: The Animated Series, so I've been watching the last son of Krypton on TV for a while. When Smallville began, I was a weekly viewer and I stuck with it faithfully for at least 6 seasons. The following two seasons I watched haphazardly but was still a fan. The loss of Kristin Kreuk, Michael Rosenbaum and John Glover at the close of season 7 was really too great for the show to maintain its attraction. Season 8 I watched because I was sure it was going to be the last. I was wrong and it kept chugging along for another 2. With the end of season 7, series creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar also left. I can only assume that they felt they'd done all they could with the world they created. For me, it became a waiting game for Clark Kent to fly and wear "the suit". Budgeted down versions of Doomsday, General Zod and Darkseid didn't much cut it for me in the latter shows. I did however enjoy The Legion of Superheroes and continuing appearances of The Flash. In the end, though, now that the series is over I just don't feel like revisiting it. I've consumed it once already and that was satisfying enough.

I also feel that one of the the problem with Smallville is systemic to all high school set shows in that once the characters graduate the principle reason to keep the cast together also disappears. Smallville pushes that even further by transitioning through college and into the workplace, however the characters still retain the same level of development they had in the earlier seasons. There's only so much the creative talent can do to keep things fresh but still familiar. Push the relationships too far in any direct and you lose the tension that existed before. The "Moonlighting Curse" illustrates that fans want the romantic leads to get together, but when they do, they becomes dissatisfied with the show. However, keep them apart for too long and the audience becomes frustrated by the stagnancy which in turn can lead to lower ratings. Back in season 3, Millar and Gough said on the pairing of Clark and Lana:

Millar on a Clark/Lana union being suicide for the show: "We had this scene in Exodus where they finally went out, with them picnicking, and horses and we thought 'well, that's boring as hell, we're not going to do that for a whole season.' That's the Moonlighting curse, the kiss of death for any of these shows. These two have to be apart and we then get all this Internet stuff saying 'they've gotta be together, when are they gonna be together?" Soon as they're together - Game over." source

This conundrum was encountered twice in the series with both Lana and Lois. I had transitioned to being an erratic viewer by the time Lois moved up to girlfriend status, but I know that I lost interest in seeing much more evolve between him and Lana earlier on. I was happy when Kreuk was off filming Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-li because it meant less of their whole tumultuous love story. I am thankful that nothing ever really came of the Chloe Sullivan and Kent.

Anyway, Smallville was a fun ride for 7 seasons, but like a lot of shows outstayed its welcome. I don't feel there is any reason to pursue a spin-off series either. If Warner Bros/DC wants to do another Superman series eventually or a Supergirl one, I'd prefer something completely new and original.

i thought it was cool myself. The final episode annoyed me because it never actually showed him in the suit, just glimpses, but other than that, cool show. I did miss a few seasons but picked back up fairly easily...

I love Superman and watched a few seasons of Smallville and concluded that Smallville was terrible.

There are only about three things Smallville did right:
1) Clark and Chloe's friendship
2) Erica Durance as Lois Lane
3) Michael Rosenbaum as Lex

I enjoy it.

I agree with a lot of your guys opinions and the show can be pretty hard to get into but when I started at the very start I was desperate for a modern science fiction tv show to watch and well it didn't really cut it until I believe the third season when it got really good but that's just my opinion anyway but I can see why people wouldn't like it is pretty slow and sometimes not enough action but I still love it.

I still love this show :)

I watched one episode where he jumped through a office building window, this was probably around 2002.

That's all I have to contribute.
