Sonic and Tails stand next to a tree and watch a delivery truck drive past. Tails is concerned, but Sonic is not. The delivery trucks carries this month's issue of Crack Ups Comics -- the animated, talking comic book. Tails wants to be first in line at the newsstand for the comic and is wants to hurry over that instant. Sonic says that the delivery truck is only traveling 80 miles per hour and racing over now would not be any fun. Tails is concerned by the super-deformed green blobs of children chasing after the truck. Tails wants to be  first, so he spins his tails and flies after the truck. After several seconds, Sonic speeds down the road and arrives at the newsstand before the delivery truck and Tails. Sonic buys an issue of the new Crack Ups. Everyone is happy.

Ha-ha! He Is Dying of His Injuries!
At a precipice, Dr. Robotnik and his robots Scratch and Grounder stare at a prison on a narrow spit of land. Scratch and Grounder are distracted by their copy of Crack Ups. Scratch shows grounder the hilarious comic while Dr. Robotnik explains his latest plan. He says he has constructed Mobius' most inescapable prison of pure evil. He calls it Dr. Robotnik's Rot-Your-Life Away Dungeons. Scratch and Grounder are not listening. They are watching  their comic book.

One comic is about Dr. Robotnik. In the comic, Dr. Robotnik is Humpty Dumpty. He falls off a wall and cracks, but nobody wants to help him. Instead, they just laugh. Scratch and Grounder laugh, too. Dr. Robotnik comes over to see what all this jovial exhalation is. He takes the comic book and is upset by the joke. He orders the creator of the comic arrested and imprisoned in his new dungeons.

Scratch and Grounder travel to the offices of Crack Ups Comics. .They burst into the office of Sketch Lampoon, a crazy bird. The bird is busy scribbling nonsensical doodles that may at some point become a comic. Scratch and Grounder arrest the bird. The bird continues to make bad jokes.

Meanwhile, back at the newsstand, Sonic and Tails are laughing uproariously at the hilarious comic of Dr. Robotnik dying a horrible, slow death because nobody has any compassion. The catch phrase included in the comic is, "Help, I've fallen, and I can't get up." Tails finds a free poster of Sonic in the comic. Sonic looks at the poster and states that he is taller in person. The radio in the newsstand plays a news report about Sketch Lampoon being kidnapped by Dr. Robotnik. Coincidentally, Dr. Robotnik has a new prison complex. Sonic stands for the freedom of speech through satire. He plans to rescue the captive Sketch Lampoon.

Sonic and Tails run to Dr. Robotnik's new prison. They somehow know where it is. They defeat the first layer of security and arrive on the prison island. They climb the prison tower to the control room and peek in the window. Sonic and tails see Dr. Robotnik locking the comic drawing bird in a prison cell. Dr. Robotnik then activates the computer controlled security system and demands that any security beaches be reported immediately. Sonic thinks he can easily defeat the security with his speed but needs to gain access to the inside of the prison. He plans to get captured.

Sonic puts his plan into effect. He disguises himself as a window washer and asks Dr. Robotnik if he wants his windows washed. Sonic then paints himself on the window rather than cleaning it. Dr. Robotnik is upset. Sonic waits around for Scratch and Grounder to finally respond. They order to place his hands on his head which causes Sonic to release the rope holding up his window washing platform. Sonic drops on top of the robots. For some reason, Grounder launches a rocket into Scratch's mouth. Sonic runs away from the robots.

 Danger: Anchor.
 Danger: Anchor.
Scratch and Grounder search for Sonic by a cliff. They cannot find him. Sonic and Tails arrive disguised as hang gliders. They claim that Sonic escaped using Tails' hang glider. They also offer Scratch and Grounder the use of their remaining hang glider to chase Sonic. Scratch and Grounder glide into the air with the glider. The glider's material is attached by a string to Sonic. Sonic pulls on the string and rips the cloth material off the glider. Scratch and Grounder fall into the ocean. Sonic mocks them. His plan to get captured is not going very well.

Sonic continues with the next stage of his plan on the beach. He sets up beach umbrellas and beach furniture. As a final touch, he builds a sand castle around an anchor. Tails hides behind a shipwrecked galleon. Scratch and Grounder emerge from the ocean and pull kelp off themselves. Sonic pretends to be tired, and the robots chase him. Scratch rides on Grounder's shoulders. Sonic builds a series of sand obstacles including a cannon and a bear. The robots are not fooled and run through the sand. Sonic stands next to the sand castle that Sonic built earlier. Thinking that it is another trick, they try running through it. They slam into the concealed anchor and are badly hurt. Sonic decides he has had enough fun and turns himself in to the robots by pretending to be too weak to move.

Dr. Robotnik and his robots escort Sonic to his cell. Dr. Robotnik is overjoyed at the capture of his most hated enemy. Along the way, the group see Sketch Lampoon in his cell. He asks to have the lining of his cage changed. Sonic runs over to the cell and tells Sketch Lampoon that he is a fan. The feeling is mutual as the bird cartoonist likes Sonic. Sonic secretly informs Sketch Lampoon that he is going to break him out of the prison. For some reason, Dr. Robotnik allows this exchange to happen. Sonic makes a comment about Dr. Robotnik that infuriates the mad scientist.

Sonic thinks that an open cell is his, but they keep dragging him to a specially prepared cell in a specially prepared wing. The wing is designed to prevent Sonic from escaping. Sonic admits that he is in trouble. The wing is on a separate island in its own enclosure. The group walks to a small, steel box in the center of the room. Dr. Robotnik states that Sonic's spin move cannot cut through the hardened steel. The next level of security is a spear launcher and laser turret. They are programmed to fire on anything that is blue. Also, there is a swinging spike ball. Sonic acts bravely in the face of imprisonment. Dr. Robotnik seals Sonic in the prison cell.

Dr. Robotnik attends to his next order of business: getting Sketch Lampoon to make a pro-Robotnik comic. He wants the cartoonist to portray him as he actually is. He demands that the bird draw him thinner and more muscular. The bird draws a lean Dr. Robotnik, and the real Dr. Robotnik agrees that this caricature is exactly what he looks like. Sketch Lampoon mutters under his breath.

In Sonic's prison cell, Sonic decides to use his intelligence to escape. He hears outside his cell that Scratch and Grounder are reading Crack Ups Comics. He pulls his issue out of a fold in his skin and starts laughing. The fans wonder why he is laughing. Sonic claims that Sketch Lampoon slipped him an advanced copy of the next month's issue. The robots are fans and want the next issue. They think better of opening the cell door after consulting with Sonic. Upon further discussion, Sonic convinces them to open the cell due to all the other layers of security. The door being open will not precipitate a prison escape. The robots enter the cell and start reading the Crack Ups. Sonic takes out the pack-in poster of himself. He places it on Grounder's back. The  robots step out of the cell and realize that the comic is not an advanced issue. They realize it is a trick far too late. The lasers and spear guns cause the robots to explode. The swinging spike ball finishes them. Sonic walks out of his destroyed cell, takes the keys, and frees himself.

 Rock-Laser-Scissors. Scissors Beats Laser.
Sonic steps out of the prison wing and reunites with Tails. They head off to rescue Sketch Lampoon. Sonic sends Tails to trip all the exterior gate alarms. Sonic does likewise inside the prison.

Dr. Robotnik is ordering Sketch Lampoon to draw ridiculous stories when he is alerted by the computer of every security breach and alarm. Dr. Robotnik deduces that he has only two prisoners and Sketch Lampoon is in front of him. Dr. Robotnik heads to the control room. He sees Sonic on a security monitor taunting him. He then asks what happened. All of the gate sensors are activated. Dr. Robotnik orders Scratch and Grounder to grab Sonic and Tails. The computer security system is having difficulty tracking both the fast moving Sonic and Tails. None of the automatic traps are effective. Scratch and Grounder catch up with Sonic but he runs through a series of traps. In the control room, the security system quits and applies for a job as a cash register. It then explodes, causing the prison to collapse.

Help! I Think I Have Spinal Trauma!
Sonic decides to complete his objective and rescue Sketch Lampoon. First, he deals with the robots by getting them caught in a trap. Next, Sonic runs to Sketch Lampoon's cell. He uses his spin move to cut through the bars. He and Sketch Lampoon flee the prison. Sketch Lampoon promises to make Dr. Robotnik look really stupid in his next cartoon. On the way out of the prison, Sonic grabs Tails. They burst through the front gate seconds before the prison explodes. In the rubble, Dr. Robotnik rolls around as Humpty Dumpty. He proclaims that he has fallen and cannot get up.

Sonic stops Tails from spray painting a wall. He gives a lecture to his youthful ward about graffiti.  The message is that graffiti is bad. They paint on canvases instead. Sonic paints a thumbs up or a toe or something. Tails paints a chilidog with radioactive chili. Sonic approves.
