A mad scientist frantically tries to recreate the conditions of an encounter with a dimensional disturbance, putting the lives of millions in danger. Captains Picard and Kirk defy the laws of time to stop him.
Trivia:

Part of the reason why the Enterprise D was destroyed was because the original ship was designed for smaller Television screens. By destroying the Enterprise they could re-design the ship for the big screen.
