http://whatculture.com/film/benecio-del-toro-is-star-trek-2-villain.php

Read about this the s'morning, I kinda agree with the writer regarding who he will play. I hope we have some Klingons or something equally different, but KHAANNNN would rock too! He is just such an amazing choice for any bad guy role in the Star Trek world! :D

You guys happy to see him as part of the new Star Trek?

Hopefully they stay away from Khan. I want to see something fresh and original. They have a fresh new timeline to go with, no point reusing plots/characters from the old one.

This is the best movie news I've heard in a while. Del Toro is a very talented man and my excitement for this film has just been boosted.

At least if they do "go there" he will play it better than the original lol

Thats pretty awesome! Klingon would be pretty cool (my laptop recognizes Klingon as a real word) and I wouldn't mind seeing first contact between the federation and the Klingon.

@FinalDasa: You could pick up Rosario Dawson with that line cause she's apparently a big Trekker.

Also, there is literally a town in the province I live called Vulcan, named specifically after Star Trek.

I wish this movie would hurry up and come out already. If we were on proper sequel schedules, this movie should've come out this year... :(

@Mistress_Redhead: I have been, but not in quite a long time. This basically the equivalent to a founder's statue in Vulcan.

@FinalDasa: Considering that Uhura mentions she overheard a transmission from Klingon command about Nero destroying a Klingon fleet I think it's safe to assume the Federation and Klingons know about one another.

As for Del Toro I too think he's a fine actor and addition to the cast. I hope they stay away from Khan and go for something a little different. After seeing the way they changed up the Romulans I would love to see some expansion on the Klingons and other traditional Star Trek races. The deleted scenes of the Klingons from the first movie were enough to send me into a nerdgasm.

Aye but the fact that they are taking their time gives me hope that they are being careful with the script and pre production... reality is probably more that the studio did not have as much faith in it as we hoped and were delaying its release to see how well the other one did in DVD sales etc.

@Mistress_Redhead: It probably also had quite a bit to do with JJ Abrams making Super 8 and Undercovers in the ensuing time period. In the modern age when a director is almost as important as his film series sometimes the studio is willing to wait.

@Mistress_Redhead: This is rather interesting. I rather like the actor, and while some may not have liked The Wolfman I enjoyed it. Although he's been in some weird roles that just didn't seem right for him I think if he shows up as any type of villain, whether it is Khan or anyone else, it will be good. Cool news.

Good point! though why either of those should win out over ST2 baffles me ;)

@Mistress_Redhead: Christopher Nolan obviously loves Batman but even he goes off to make something else in between films. I'm perfectly willing to let them go off and keep their creative juices flowing as long as things remain awesome.

@CenturionCajun: Would you say Batman is a big love of his? sometimes I think he is more enamoured with his side projects.
