@Mistress_Redhead: If Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are something he does for a paycheck then he puts just about every other writer/director who are actually trying out there to shame.

I certainly would not go that far, but then I am not a huge Nolan fan. I think he puts more effort into his side projects, he did well with the Batmans but they were not as good as they could have been. The second one relied heavily on Ledger's performance IMO, but I do like them.

But moving on from Batman... I am still keen to see what they are doing with Benecio! I do hope its the Klingon route.. but how funny would he look with the face of a Klingon!

Well, if you have seen the deleted scenes from the first film of Abrams ideas for the Klingons they look far different from the traditional Star Trek depiction. In traditional Abrams fashion they are recognizable as their former Star Trek race but totally different. For example the Klingon head ridges are now a part of a mask they all seem to wear and they dress in long duster like cloaks insead of the eastern themed armor.

@CenturionCajun: Where was this from?

@Mistress_Redhead: It's a deleted scene that was on at least the Blu Ray release of the Star Trek film from a couple of years back. In several sequences that were deleted they were going to show that shortly after Nero went back into the past he was captured by the Klingons and held on Rura Penthe for several years. It was going to be used to explain where he vanished to for a decade or more. The Klingons tortured him trying to get information about the Narada's technology and weapons but he never talked.His escape was the transmission Uhura overheard of a Klingon fleet being wiped out.

I'm sad it wasn't used as I like this depiction of the Klingon's but I can understand why. Telling where he had been wasn't essential and they might be reserving the right to totally change the depiction of the Klingons if needs be.

It was an amazing sequence, sad that they deleted it.. but it certainly fuels the fire that there will be more on the Klingons! we have the Blu Ray just never thought to look at the deleted scenes!

@Mistress_Redhead: They definitely spent a lot of money on it as all the special effects and the light bloom is in full effect. Leads me to wonder exactly at what point in production it was pulled and whose idea it was to do so.

We were thinking the same thing, its a polished scene.. not one that was filmed and just left. I can only imagine it came down to a time issue and was between that and another scene that was perhaps more vital.

If they keep with this depiction of the Klingons I could buy Benicio as one far easier than the traditional look head ridge look. Of course that would mean they will have to show the Klingons without their masks as you arn't going to hide the face of an actor of Del Toro's stature. Personally I'd like for them to look more like the Original Series depiction underneath as an homage to the origin. I'd be able to buy Del Toro a little Genghis Khan looking.

EDIT: Not to keep talking about how awesome the deleted Klingons were but here's the scene of them capturing the Narada that was also deleted. While the special effects for the Klingon ships was never finished it's still pretty impressive.

@CenturionCajun: OOH thanks for sharing that! :D

@Mistress_Redhead: I personally hold out hope that some of the more obscure Star Trek races who were rather difficult special effects wise in the past will make a resurgence. Even since the Starfleet Command games I've been a huge fan of the Gorn. However, the rubber suit monster in TOS and the badly CGed one in Enterprise didn't do them justice.

One of us! One of us!

Worse or Worserer: Star Trek III vs. Star Trek V

Both are bad - but one will force you to build a Heisenberg Compensator for the sole purpose of beaming yourself away from this film. Alex and Matt debate which one it is.
