And he'll cut off his limbs later and burn him alive. Awwww...

Here’s another tidbit from that Licensing Expo that previously revealed the first official art related to the Avengers. ComingSoon’s got a report that Lucasfilm’s putting out a Lego Star Wars TV special this fall that’s apparently unrelated to a new cartoon series it’s also developing to fill the big planet-blown-up-by-a-Death-Star size void that’ll be left once Clone Wars wraps up its five year arc.

I was going to joke about how Lucas made same vow against TV specials after that infamous Christmas-themed jamboree, but then I remembered those Ewok movies and the reference didn’t really work anymore. It does still feel uncommonly… self-reflexive to have a TV special based on a video game based on a toy line that’s in turn based on a series of a movies, but that is a synergistic sign of the times we’re in. Actually, it fits into this weeks “kid’s stuff blown up to the big screen” theme in way that only seems coincidental at first.

I honestly haven’t gotten to play any of the Lego movie games outside of some idle sampling of demo kiosk while killing time at Best Buy. The conceit is that the cut-scenes reenact scenes from the movies like they were silent slapstick comedies, right? Imagine a whole program of that, and you probably won't be too far off from what this special holds for you.

I know it shouldn't but this kind of stuff makes me like the original trilogy less.

They would have to have voices of some kind. You can't just pantomime a TV Special.

LEGO Star Wars is fine:) LEGO's actually been producing tv specials for Cartoon Network for awhile now, and both Atlantis and Ninjago were pretty entertaining, and very well done. A LEGO Star Wars is gonna be great too. Just...why the prequel LEGOs? They had original trilogy LEGOs first. You already have the Clone Wars cartoon taking place; wouldn't it be smarter to have an old school Star Wars LEGO special and than the prequel trilogy Clone Wars show on?

Anyway, I hope the new, "destined to replace Clone Wars" show takes place in the prequel times, or later. I really like the Clone Wars, but I'm pretty much done with Jedi at this point. Star Wars really needs to get back to heroes, villains, bounty hunters, hotshot pilots, and alien monsters...not unkillable super-swordsmen and faceless clones.

@vinsanityv22:  I agree, I'm pretty tired of Jedis now too. Plus there are plenty of holes in the original trilogy that would be nice to see filled.

I saw a couple of the Lego adventures movies on the Cartoon Network and I didn't think much of them at all.  They're worse than the Bionicle ones and those aren't too great, either.  I am fairly forgiving of most children's cartoons and I fully admit to liking quite a few (Phineas & Ferb, Adventure Time, Regular Show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Young Justice, Symbiotic Titan, etc...), but the Lego adventures movies just bore me to tears.  The comedy that works in a game comes across as lame in the TV shows.

If Lucas really wants to make another animated series, he should employ Blur Studios, a CG animation company that made the Star Wars the Old Republic trailers.  How awesome would thirteen 22-minute episodes of that be?  I'm sure it would be expensive, but damn, he'd win back my devotion.

I really enjoy the Lego Star Wars games, but I don't think I could sit through an entire TV episode of those cut scenes.

Does anybody else wonder how they are going to make a t.v special full of characters who don't talk? Sure it works in a videogame format, but for a non-interactive medium, the plot might become a bit hard to follow.

I want more Kyle Katarn. And something related to Republic Commando. Get to it Lucas!
