Here’s another tidbit from that Licensing Expo that previously revealed the first official art related to the Avengers. ComingSoon’s got a report that Lucasfilm’s putting out a Lego Star Wars TV special this fall that’s apparently unrelated to a new cartoon series it’s also developing to fill the big planet-blown-up-by-a-Death-Star size void that’ll be left once Clone Wars wraps up its five year arc.
I was going to joke about how Lucas made same vow against TV specials after that infamous Christmas-themed jamboree, but then I remembered those Ewok movies and the reference didn’t really work anymore. It does still feel uncommonly… self-reflexive to have a TV special based on a video game based on a toy line that’s in turn based on a series of a movies, but that is a synergistic sign of the times we’re in. Actually, it fits into this weeks “kid’s stuff blown up to the big screen” theme in way that only seems coincidental at first.
I honestly haven’t gotten to play any of the Lego movie games outside of some idle sampling of demo kiosk while killing time at Best Buy. The conceit is that the cut-scenes reenact scenes from the movies like they were silent slapstick comedies, right? Imagine a whole program of that, and you probably won't be too far off from what this special holds for you.
