The films were predominantly shot at Elstree Studios in London. Exceptions being the exterior shots (Tatooine - Tunisia; Hoth - Norway; Endor - Redwood; plus a few pickups in Arizona) of course. So most of the 'extra' actors are British, including Wedge, Biggs, Red Leader Garvin Dreis and the other fighter pilots and Rebel soldiers are British. Many of them had their voices dubbed in ADR.

David Prowse and Peter Mayhew were also Englishmen who wore the costumes for Vader and Chewy respectively, provided placeholder voices - yes, even Chewy - which was obviously replaced later. Greedo was the same.

Christ, how many more re-releases of these goddamn movies will there be?

Lucas is never not releasing Star Wars.

Yep.

I grew up on the Star Wars VHS pack and when I got my Complete Collection from Amazon on Thursday I was thoroughly impressed. It has the same awesome presentation as my other favorite Blu-Ray pack, the Alien collection. Super slick stuff.

If you're a fan of the movies, I say just buy it. There's so much more awesome here than not. It's freaking Star Wars! I forgot how much ass lightsabers kick!!! For every 5 seconds of unnecessary digital changes there are 5 hours of classic Star Wars and it looks freaking great! The transfers aren't perfect across the board but I'm not waiting any longer!

I never bought any of the Star Wars movies on DVD so I was due to finally pick them up again. It's going to be a blast re-watching them, it's probably been ten years since I've seen any of the originals in any kind of significant fashion. Really great special features too.

I'm personally not too into Star Wars, but I grew up on the original unaltered trilogy as a kid. I've been wanting to see them again now as an adult to appreciate them for the fine filmmaking they are, but since the original unaltered films have never been properly released I do not think I will ever do so!

The only current hope is that after George Lucas dies (as horrible as this sounds) the person that then holds the rights to the Star Wars films will release them unaltered using the negatives archived in the Library of Congress as according to George Lucas the original masters to the Trilogy were "lost". Either that or George Lucas watches The People vs George Lucas, watches all three of RedLetterMedia's Star Wars Prequel Reviews, re-read the speech he gave before Congress in 1988, considers everything said by the fans, and then contemplates long and hard about what he is doing/what he has done and then have a change of heart and give the Theatrical cuts the release they have desperately been deserving. I don't care if he messes with Star Wars, but only if he also releases the unaltered versions properly too.

@DarkGamerOO7:

You'd have to think under such circumstances (God forbid, of course) control would only ever go to someone who Lucas sees eye-to-eye with over such things. Probably someone like Rick McCallum, who appears to possess the right-hand-man mantle once held by Gary Kurtz.

I'm all for these little changes...as long as you're still able to watch the original version of the movies.

So... are they still available on this new release?

(also, will as many scenes be added to the prequels as well??)

The deleted scene most fans were interested in was Tosche Station. The stills from the storybook were the only real evidence from the scene for years, with Lucas always claiming they never filmed it or that it was lost. Yet, here was a scene of Luke being Luke at home. So, it is nice that the scene, and the other scenes are able to finally be seen.

I don't care about the changes since they don't really affect the movie as a whole and are barely noticeable for the most part. That said, there are a few changes here and there that I completely am against. Not sure If I should buy this because I've never gotten to see the original unaltered versions and I would love to see them on blu-ray and I certainly wouldn't want to own this if the original versions ever are released.

There is a DVD set that includes the theatrical version as a special feature on a bonus disk for each film. That is currently the only way to see the movies in their original form, out side of old VHS releases from 1995 or earlier.

No.

Typically, what has happened in the past was once a new "version" of the film was released, Lucas would make any previous versions no longer available.

The releasing of the "theatrical version" as a special feature in what was originally planned as a limited edition box set was mostly to kill the growing Laser Disk bootleg market. In fact, the theatrical version they included is actually just a Laser Disk transfer of their own.

Making a Screened Video Feature

Anyone else geeking out about this a bit? 40 hours of new material and previously unreleased cut footage should be interesting, at least.

Video Feature: Did Midi-chlorians Ruin Star Wars?

Midi-Clorians or mysticism? Rorie discusses with Screened users the magic and science in Star Wars.
