Overview:

Sucker Punch is an epic action-fantasy that takes place in the vivid imagination of a girl Babydoll ( Emily Browning). The girl is hospitalized in a insane asylum  by her greedy stepfather, who claims to be the sole heir to the fortune left by her mother. She goes to confront painful therapies.
The only way out is to take refuge in her own mind, which creates an alternative reality. An alternate reality where there are different worlds full of dragons, robots, samurais, Nazis and heavy weaponry in order to escape.

Plot

A young girl, later known as Babydoll (Emily Browning), finds out her mother has died. The stepfather of Babydoll tries to harm her after he finds out all of the mothers possessions will go to her and her sister. The step father stops short and instead goes after the younger sister. Babydoll climbs out a window in an attempt to defend her sister by accidentally shoots her instead with the step father's gun.

The step father commits Babydoll to a mental institute, and once she arrives the head orderly, later known as Blue Jones ( Oscar Isaac), shows her around. The theater, a dingy high school arena looking area, serves as the rec room for the other asylum patients. Women mill about mundanely while on the center stage Dr. Vera Gorski ( Carla Gugino) provides music therapy to a patient. The step father pays Blue to forge Dr. Gorski's signature to have a lobotomy authorized for Babydoll so as to wipe her memory of the incident. The lobotomist will arrive in one week, until then, Babydoll retreats into her own subconscious to find a way to escape the asylum.

At  this point the scene shifts to a brothel that slightly resembles the asylum. Sweet Pea ( Abbie Cornish) is beckoned over by Blue (the proprietor of the brothel) and instructs Sweet Pea to show Babydoll around. Sweet Pea shirks this task on to her sister Rocket (Jena Malone) who informs Babydoll that all the women here are to serve the various clients that Blue has dealings with. Later on, Babydoll saves Rocket from the cook who overpowers her after trying to take a piece of chocolate. Madam Gorski, the dance instructor for the brothel, tells Babydoll that see will be given to a High Roller ( Jon Hamm) that arrives in one week. To prepare for the High Roller, Madam Gorski instructs Babydoll to learn a dance, this triggers another fantasy in Babydoll's mind that places her in what looks like a Japanese temple.

Babydoll enters the temple to find an old man polishing a katana. Simply known as the Wiseman ( Scott Glen), he tells her that a map, fire, knife, key, and one mystery item that requires great sacrifice must be gathered to ensure her escape from the brothel. After the Wiseman imparts this crucial knowledge he hands Babydoll the katana and a handgun and tells her to defend herself. Three giant samurai guardians wait for Babydoll in the temples courtyard. The three attack one at a time. The first knocks Babydoll back into the temple with a bladed staff, Babydoll quickly regains her composure and dispatches the first samurai. The second samurai enters the temple wielding a giant chain gun. Babydoll dashes about the temple, quickly working her way to the gun toting foe. She manages to get close enough to jump up to his face and kill him with several shots from her handgun. The last samurai shakily draws his sword and charges Babydoll. Waiting for the right moment to strike, Babydoll makes a superhuman leap at the samurai and cuts him down with one fell swoop.

Back in the brothel, Babydoll, having gained Rocket's trust by saving her life, informs Sweet Pea, Rocket, Blondie ( Vanessa Hudgens), and Amber (Jamie Chung) of her plan to escape. Rocket, Blondie, and Amber quickly agree to Babydoll's plan, Sweet Pea however, takes some convincing from Rocket but joins on the condition that if it gets to hot they will stop the plan. Having spotted the map in Blue's office, Babydoll will have to distract Blue and his men with her dancing while Sweet Pea takes the map. Babydoll and the others put their plan into motion and Babydoll enters another one of her fantasy scenarios.

The group finds themselves in an old ruined church with Nazi planes circling the skies. The Wiseman tells them that a Nazi general has possession of the map and the team must work their way through the trenches to get it, also, he has brought a special gift for Amber. The special surprise being a giant mech suit with a pink bunny painted on the front. Amber enters the mech and provides support as Babydoll and the others wade through the Nazi soldiers who have been brought back to life using steam power and machinery. After being split up, Babydoll finds the general who has give the map to a man that looks like Blue. He tries to escape to a Zeppelin but falls short after the Zeppelin is shot down. Amber and the other meet back up with Babydoll and escape with the map.

In the brothel, Sweet Pea makes a copy of the map and returns to her friends. Blue returns to his office after viewing Babydoll's hypnotizing dance, and discovers that his map has been tampered with. The next item on the list is fire. With the arrival of the cigar chomping mayor Babydoll and the others have a perfect opportunity to steal his lighter. Amber tries to lift the lighter off the mayor as Babydoll falls into another fantasy sequence while performing her dance.

The girls and the Wiseman are found in a plane circling a castle being overrun with orcs. The Wiseman informs them that a dragon inside the castle must be killed, and inside it are the stones they seek. Babydoll, Rocket, and Sweet Pea infiltrate the castle with ease and find a small dragon sleeping on a pile of bones. Babydoll cuts the dragon's neck and extracts the two stones without incident. However, a much bigger dragon slumbers beneath them and rises from its lair to chase the trio out of the castle. The dragon gives chase to Amber and Blondie who are still flying the plane and manning the mini-gun. Amber leads the dragon back around to Babydoll who lures the dragon to a choke point where she can leap on top of its head and kill it with one stab.

Once again in the brothel, the group's scheme had worked, the map and lighter were now in their possession. Their moment of jubilation was short lived when Blue enters the dressing room and confronts them with his suspicions. Sweet Pea feels it's necessary to stop the groups plan, however, Rocket still wants to push on having come this far already. In another part of the brothel, Blondie breaks down and tells the group's secret to Madam Gorski and in the process spills the beans to Blue.

The second to last item being the knife, Sweet Pea reluctantly joins Babydoll, Rocket, and Amber to lift the knife off the cook. Barring the doors, the four women trap the cook and make him watch Babydoll's hypnotizing dance. The fantasy that Babydoll falls into this time places them on a helicopter that is keeping pace with a speeding train.

This time the Wiseman tells them that they must board the train and stop a bomb from going off. After boarding the train, Babydoll, Rocket, and Sweet Pea are greeted by gun-toting robots. The trio makes short work of the robots and disarm the bomb with ease. In the real world, the cook snaps out of his trance because a short in the radio stops Babydoll's music. Sweet Pea, who just got the knife, is attacked by the cook. Rocket throws herself in front of the blade, saving Sweet Pea's life. In the dream world, a robot reactivates the bomb and Rocket sacrifices herself to save the others.

After Rocket's death Sweet Pea get locked up in a utility closet and Blue come forward once again to confront the girls. Blue informs them that Blondie has told him everything, and precedes to make an example out of them by killing Amber and Blondie. Blue, tired of other playing with his toys as he puts it, tries to rape Babydoll but she pulls the knife out and stab him in the shoulder

Babydoll makes a getaway and frees Sweet Pea. They use the lighter to set a utility closet on fire which allows them to escape in the chaos. Outside many guards stand between Babydoll and the exit. Babydoll realizes the mystery item of sacrifice is Babydoll sacrificing herself. Babydoll tells Sweet Pea that this is her story and she must go on living for everyone. Babydoll then distracts the guards while Sweet Pea escapes.

All the way back to the asylum setting proper, a doctor stands over Babydoll administering the actual lobotomy. The doctor, startled by the strange look in Babydoll's eyes, talks it over with Dr. Gorski and it comes to light that Blue had forged the documents authorizing Babydoll's lobotomy. Blue takes Babydoll to a secluded room where he tries to rape her for stabbing him but Gorski arrives with the police to stop him. At the same time, Sweet Pee tries to board a bus out of town but two policemen stop her for questioning. The driver of the bus, who turns out to be the Wiseman, vouches for her and allows her free passage on the bus.
