LORD WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT KID'S FACE

Looking forward to Super 8? Well, you might not have to look forward for much longer, as Paramount and Twitter have announced a bit of a team-up, intended to hype up their plan to release the movie a day early in 300 theaters nationwide. It's a bit silly, really: there's some nonsense about a Twitter hashtag called #super8secret, but...you don't actually need to tweet anything to anyone to get in on the deal. All you need to do is go to the Super 8 website, click on one of the buttons that lead to e-ticketing sites, and go ahead and buy a ticket. Or, as far as I can tell, you can go to a participating theater and buy a ticket tomorrow.

So, yeah...it's a bit silly of a promotion, effectively a way to scream "HEY YOU GUYS KNOW THIS TWITTER THING?" without actually doing anything intriguing with the service. That said, it's still an opportunity for Paramount to release the film and get buzz going on the net among their core audience without giving critics a chance to set the tone for how the film is going to be received, but also without doing something crass like not have any critics' screenings. Not that they seem worried about the film; reviews are pretty good thus far, and there's a pretty massive sneak preview tonight here in San Francisco at the Castro Theater, the city's biggest single-screen venue. I'll be in attendance, and we should have a review for the film up sometime early tomorrow.

Plan on checking out Super 8 this weekend? If so, are you interested in one of these "sneak previews?"

Crap, no theaters near me are showing it early...

Yeah, I'd been trying to decipher this all day, and it feels like it's just a way for Twitter to get in on the buzz.

It's really too bad, I feel like it wouldn't have been that difficult to auto-respond to every tweet with the #super8secret giving a code to download an advance ticket - and then redeem those first-come, first-serve at the screens.

Weird/dumb/cool. Too bad I already ordered my ticket for Friday.

"LORD WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THAT KID'S FACE"

Didn't you hear? Super 8 is a zombie movie!

No, but seriously, those kids in the movie are filming their own zombie movie (on 8mm film), before shit hits the fan.

I have no idea what Super 8 is about. I'm not going to spend the money to go see a mystery movie. This sneak preview does not interest me.

Well aren't you a dull individual.  What, do you need everything spelled out for you before you even bother to watch a film?

@cexantus: Haha. I need at least something to entice me to the film...I'm not a big fan of trains, found footage, or children, so there might not be anything there for me. I am a pretty big fan of JJ Abrams, though. Perhaps I should be used to not know what the hell is going on.

Don't want to go into too many specifics but the movie is very Abramsy (and is not a Found Footage movie either), so you'll probably like it.  Especially if you like lens flares.

It's nice to see a 13 year old G-man making an appearance in the movie.
Super 8 Theatrical Trailer

We hate to be those guys who get super duper giddy over a movie trailer, but as children of the Spielberg era, we've little choice in the matter. This just looks awesome.

Super 8 Trailer

J.J. Abrams' new monster movie trailer teases us something fierce without showing any leg.
