Super 8's secret is a Terrible Script

I haven't seen the movie, and was never excited, so I read that. The third act. Would you agree with this assessment of the script and character motivations? JJ Abrams thought of doing a nostalgic Stand By Me style movie, then threw some alien monster story in?

You could argue that the first 2 acts are reminiscent of Speilberg, with the 3rd act being more obviously Abrams.
That's not to say the script is bad though. Personally I would have preferred a less aggressive alien with more connection between it and the kids, but I still enjoyed the film.

@circle: I'm glad that it didn't have a less aggressive Alien because then it would of felt too much like E.T. I thought the movie was great though, we haven't had a movie like this in quite sometime that reminded me of Stand By Me, The goonies and what not.

@assinass: I mean, I guess you are entitled to your opinion and I know I haven't seen your movie but I did read your terrible post and would you agree with me that it was a very troll post? Assinass thought of doing something that would stir up some kind of crazy mess, then threw some aliens to spice it up?

Anyway, if you didn't like the movie I could understand that, my friends and I enjoyed it but I know a few people who don't like it and I don't jump on them but come on you are complaining about the script... a lot of scripts sound stupid it's the "Artists" job to make it better and even if you are still not sold on the movie to complain about it being too much like Stand By Me is silly. Obviously they were going for that kind of feel with the movie. It's like saying 300 is trying to hard to be Lord of the rings because it has swords.

Super 8 Theatrical Trailer

We hate to be those guys who get super duper giddy over a movie trailer, but as children of the Spielberg era, we've little choice in the matter. This just looks awesome.
