Awkward teen Scott McCall is bitten by a werewolf in the woods one night and finds his life turned upside down. His senses are heightened, his speed and strength has increased which all point to one thing; Scott is a werewolf! He also notices the new girl, Alison, who Scott seems to have fallen head over heels for.
Scott, Stiles, Lydia, Allison and Jackson are all trapped at the High School by the Alpha, who terrorises the poor teens and forces them into a corner. Will Scott be able to get them all to safety?
As the full-moon approaches, Scott begins to act very strangely, being unable to control his abilities and he finds it hard to suppress his desire to kill. Jackson and Allison grow even closer after the High School incident and Lydia and Scott share an 'intimate' moment.
Scott and Alison must now try to keep their relationship hidden from everyone, or face the wrath of her father. Lydia, upon healing from the attack, goes missing after a mental breakdown. Jackson's transition goes seriously wrong when he begins to have a strange reaction to the bite and Kate's funeral brings the arrival of the powerful Argent patriarch.
As the full moon approaches, Scott takes preparations for securing the safety of everyone around him but also discovers a new werewolf at school, who may put everyone in danger. Lydia returns to school and becomes the centre of attention while Jackson finds out once and for all whether he is a werewolf or not. Scott comes face to face with a surprising new threat.
Alison is taught a hard lesson by her father, who intends to train her into the family business. Derek continues to increase his pack, setting his sights on Erica, an unpopular epileptic girl at school. Jackson has an idea as to why he wasn't affected by the wolf-bite and Lydia begins to have realistic hallucinations.
The mysterious, reptile creature strikes again but this time in the presence of Stiles. Lydia is forced to go to the Guidance Counsellor by her parents and meets a charming stranger in the waiting room. Alison's grandpa invites Scott to dinner at the Argent's home while Derek, Erica and Stiles are attacked as the creature makes a surprise appearance.
Derek focuses all of his energy into finding the Kanima's human form and killing it before it destroys his pack. The biggest suspects, Jackson and Lydia, along with Stiles and Alison, find themselves confined to Scott's house while Derek and his pack attempt to break in. But who exactly is the Kanima?
With the identity of the Kanima now known, Stiles kidnaps Jackson and keeps him in containment until they resolve the issue, however, when he escapes, Scott must track him down before he leaves more bodies in his deadly path. Alison's grandfather becomes suspicious of her actions while Lydia bumps into the handsome stranger again.
Jackson is haunted by the newfound knowledge of what he is, while Alison discovers that the Kanima is being controlled .. but by who? - Scott's mother discovers a surprise after searching his room. Lydia has a rendezvous with the charming guy that has been pursuing her. Detention turns deadly when the Kanima suddenly appears.
