Cropping this image wound up making it look way dirtier than it actually is.

Curious about the title for Marc Webb's new Spider-Man movie? Well, wonder no more, as it's been officially announced as The Amazing Spider-Man. I feel like this is what it's been referred to in our database for a while now, so maybe this has been the rumor going around, but according to Sony's official website for the film, that's the new, official name for the film. Which is pretty cool, when you think about it; maybe they can avoid the standard 2, 3, 4 numbering system for the inevitable sequels and go with The Spectacular Spider-Man, and so on.

Also released is a new, big image, which I cropped a bit above, but I'll go ahead and throw the big version down below the break. As an image, it shows off a decent amount of detail of the costume, but the shadows and that awkward crouch doesn't reveal much of the chestpiece. It's also impossible to tell if that's actually Andrew Garfield in there ( Deadline says it is), but then again, I suppose he'd probably rarely be wearing the whole outfit even in the actual film; what would be the point, when you have digital and real stuntmen hanging around to take his place?

This costume actually looks pretty good.

God help them if this is the origin story again.

Hopefully they start it in media res and just have flashbacks through the whole thing.

At first I was kinda down on this thing, since I thought Sam Raimi did Spider-Man really well if it wasn't for the third film.

But after seeing Andrew Garfield in The Social Network and a couple other movies I'd like to see him as the webhead.

I guess he does have actual mechanical web-shooters now.

This might actually be able to top the Raimi Spider-Man movies if only on a completely different level.
Also these super dark (kinda emo) spider-man pictures so far is hinting at a darker tone which is kind of odd.

Of course he does, the coolest part about Spider-man was how he kept coming up with all these dumb inventions, but never made any money and constantly scrambled around for cash....oh wait, that's why I didn't like him when I was a kid..

The eye sockets look so creepy. Like his skin's burnt underneath.

Why would he sell his inventions only to let his enemy's buy them and use them against him? His web is his greatest weapon. Why would he give that to people to use against him?

And another thing, if he's selling super adhesive squirters (patten pending) the minute someone connects that to Spider-Man then his identity is boned.

I like the look of it, if it is going for a darker tone I would welcome it. The only real problem with Rami's spiderman was that it just seemed a be bright and cheery for life and death. Thats just me though.

As much as I want to be bummed by this fast reboot it's impossible not to like it.

The title, that costume, that cast, everything seems to be being nailed in a way unlike any other superhero movie.

Still not sure if I really want to see this yet. Maybe when they release a trailer I'll be able to get on board

Loving the look but I sure hope they don't do another damn origin. What else needs to be said? Dude gets bit by a radioactive spider, BAM!, Spider-Man! End.

Spider-Man shouldn't be hyphenated. Batman doesn't need hyphens..

They could do the same thing as The Incredible Hulk: having the origin story being told in the opening credits.

Or better yet they do it entirely like 500 Days of Summer and have a non-chronological abridged story of the entire life of Spiderman.
