Spider-Man's totally getting Stoned!
Said director Marc Webb on the addition of Stone as Stacy:
"The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde."
PREVIOUSLY: The question as to who will play Peter Parker's lady love in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot has finally been answered. According to Deadline, the role has been given to Emma Stone, the rising star from such films as Zombieland and Easy A.
Stone will be taking up the role of Mary Jane Watson, whom Kirsten Dunst played in the previous three Spider-Man films. According to the article, though, Mary Jane will not actually be Spidey's love interest in this first installment of the Marc Webb-directed reboot. Rather, Gwen Stacy will have that honor, with Mary Jane becoming more prominent in subsequent installments.
The actresses said to be vying for the Stacy role, which Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3, are Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott.
