 Spider-Man's totally getting Stoned!
UPDATE: It's now been confirmed by Sony Pictures Entertainment that Emma Stone will indeed be joining the upcoming Spider-Man film. Unlike previously reported, she will not play the role of Mary Jane, but instead that of Gwen Stacy and will be the love interest of Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker in the film.

Said director Marc Webb on the addition of Stone as Stacy:
"The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde."

PREVIOUSLY: The question as to who will play Peter Parker's lady love in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot has finally been answered. According to Deadline, the role has been given to Emma Stone, the rising star from such films as Zombieland and Easy A

Stone will be taking up the role of Mary Jane Watson, whom Kirsten Dunst played in the previous three Spider-Man films. According to the article, though, Mary Jane will not actually be Spidey's love interest in this first installment of the Marc Webb-directed reboot. Rather, Gwen Stacy will have that honor, with Mary Jane becoming more prominent in subsequent installments.

The actresses said to be vying for the Stacy role, which Bryce Dallas Howard played in Spider-Man 3,  are Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott.

I do love the captioning on Screened. I think she's a good choice for the role but after the last 3 Spiderman films I still feel all Spiderman'd out.

If Dianna Agron is also in this film though it will be very visually appealing.

Gwen Stacy actually being the prominent character that she should have been? Sign me up.
Also Emma Stone is a great choice for MJ.

I was never a big fan of Kirsten Dunst, so I was going to be very happy about this no matter what.

Gimme summah dat snarky, whiny, 2 dimensional character!

I think she'd make a great MJ. At the risk of sounding like "that guy", Emma seems to have that little bit of spunk that Mary Jane has in the Ultimate Spiderman comics.

Man...I like Emma Stone a lot, but that picture is freakin' me out for some reason.
Couldn't you have picked a nicer one?!

Well you can't do any worse than Kirsten Dunst. She is so horrible in those films.

I'd say this was good news but I still think the choice of Spider-Man is terrible. Im willing to be convinced otherwise though.

Hmm, I was looking at the list of Gwen Stacy possibilities, saying "who?" to every one.  So imagine my surprise that I didn't know who Dianna Agron is, considering that I watch Glee every week.  Not a good sign.

I hate to be internet contrarian guy, but Im kind of getting sick of her. That said, I think she will be fine in the role.

As someone who rivals Rorie in my love of Emma Stone, I am, of course, all for this.

An ACTRESS playing Mary-Jane Watson?! What a NOVEL concept!
Seriously, I am psyched as all hell about this news.
