@JTB123: curious why you didn't think Scarlett was believable as Black Widow. I thought she nailed the role and made BW feel like more than just another action girl with a pretty face. No doubt in large part due to being directed by a guy who actually gave a shit about her character.

I had no idea that was Thanos at the end; I thought it was the Red Skull. I have to say I didn't quite like the movie as I thought I would. I'm not sure how I feel about the more comical portrayal of the Hulk and I'm not sure how much I like Hawkeye. Did anyone else find the death of Phil Coulson totally unexpected?

Yeah, I also thought it was centered too much on comedy. There was just too much comedy to take this film seriously. That bit at the end where all The Avengers are on the verge of dying (Hulk being overrun, Loki about to kill Thor, Captain America getting shot, Hawkeye and BW barely surviving) didn't have the same effect that it wanted because you half expected someone to crack a joke somewhere. I loved the film, I just wished they didn't have some wise ass joke every 10 minutes.

@NlGHTCRAWLER:

For a while I was loving the jokes but as the movie went on, the jokes became so frequent that they weren't even funny anymore. My audience cracked up at the Hulk and I didn't really find him that funny at all. The Hulk was easily my least favorite character because of his extremely comical portrayal but I loved Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. I never thought there could be an actor as good as Ed Norton in the role but Ruffalo is definitely up there with him. As much as we got to know the characters, I didn't feel a thing for any of them either because I thought a joke was coming everytime they were in danger and even when Phil Coulson I expected him to crack a joke.

I really enjoyed the movie, really fun. But I do have one question, what was this bet Captain America and Nick Fury have? What was the exchange of money about?

@RockinKemosabe: Remember the scene in the gym with Cap punching down bags? Nick Fury says something about how he'll bet Cap 10 bucks that Cap will soon see something even weirder than everything he has been witnessing in present day so far.

@The_Patriarch: Ah yes, thank you.

@ashogo: She just doesn't have the necessary presence to pull off that kind of character IMO.

I feel like some of the end action scenes where a little awkwardly handled while it was nice to see the Avengers being overran there was never any real danger because in a big movie like this you know they won't kill off a central character, while not inherently the Avengers fault I feel as if other blockbusters have been able to give you a better sense of there being danger, and this may all be about that Loki didn't seem like too much of a threat as a villain, I mean he loses to Hulk in 30 secinds. This is also added to the fact that if the Avengers weren't around the worst that would have happened would have just been New York being nuked. It's like his entire plan was to just get the aliens there and then he had nothing

Loki doesn't really lose to Hulk in that scene. He gets the shit beaten out of him, but he's also caught off-guard, and he doesn't even have his scepter with him, which seems to be the main source of his power. Also, I feel like Loki is most menacing when he's manipulating people, not necessarily having hands-on brawls with them, and he gets plenty of chances to do some manipulation work, the best of which is tearing the entire team apart and inciting them against one another on the aircraft. Plus the dude has an awesome maniacal grin.

We didn't really get to see how widespread the damage was, but I think it's safe to say that without the Avengers, the aliens would have spread beyond New York very quickly. The whole reason they were able to contain the attack within Manhattan was because the Avengers were devoting all their energy to keeping the enemies occupied.

@litrock: No Lie i am a fan of both Hulk Movies, but my question what did you think about Agent Phil Coulson?

Post by Dylabaloo (821 posts) See mini bio

I liked it, but I didn't love it. Iron Man is still my favourite Marvel movie.

@TheFaithfullyDeparted: (Sorry for the late reply! I must have missed the alert in my inbox.)

I really enjoyed all the Black Widow stuff throughout, but I will agree that Loki vs. Hulk was shallow. I didn't mind so much because we've seen him fight, and that's just not his strong suit. He's a manipulator and the army he brought to earth was huge threat even with him out of commission.

The more I think about it the more angry I get at the inappropriate consumption of Shawarma.  It is an extremely unhealthy food item usually made of processed meats that could lead to obesity which is a horrible epidemic that is plaguing the US.  How irresponsible of the film makers to not show the consequences of eating fatty processed food products!

It's one of the best movies I've seen so far this year! Everyone was great in the film, and The Hulk was the scene-stealer for me.

Watching the movie made me go back and watch most of the movies that led up to it, I had never gotten around to seeing Thor. I also appreciated that (While some may disagree with this) Hawkeye and Black Widow were presented in a way that made them seem important and badass while surrounded by gods and super-soldiers. And I still think that Chris Evans is a fantastic Captain America.

@RelativelySane: Agreed. I liked Black Widow in Avengers and disliked her in Iron Man 2 because she was mainly a sex symbol and nothing more.
