Disney must be happy with these numbers. Balances out the John Carter debacle.
of course they do have to give at least 10% to Paramount. But still, they are probably happy. Then again, it doesn't much help their chairmen, who was just fired.

The Avengers is a lot better than The Hunger Games.
This pleases me.
I liked The Hunger Games so this makes me even more excited.
@VioletEyedDragon: I bet that Disney won't be too worried about giving Paramount 10% in the long run considering how much money The Avengers will make when it reaches its theatrical run. And even if John Carter was a success and the chairman (Rich Ross) still had his job, all the credit still would of gone to Kevin Feige regardless.
@RockinKemosabe: Feige deserves it. He did an awesome job bringing a complicated universe to the big screen.
That said, I think it shows something that of Disney's last three blockbusters, one was made entirely through Pixar (Cars 2), one was a sequel to a franchise they started eight years ago (Pirates 4), and one they just bought from Paramount.
@VioletEyedDragon: It makes you wonder how well The Lone Ranger is going to do. It has a huge budget and though it certainly has the star power of Johnny Depp, whom Disney has made billions off his name front and centre with Pirates and Alice, but look at Rango, animated film with Depp, but wasn't the big success it could of been.

Yeah. I think it will do fine because it reunites the team behind Pirates. But it could just be like a Prince of Persia: Passable, but in no way a franchise starter. Then again, Depp is a huge star. If Dark Shadows is a hit, we know the movie will do well (though if Dark Shadows isn't, it will say nothing, since unlike The Lone Ranger it had a weirder concept).
Either way, though, if The Lone Ranger is Disney's best (and only) idea to create another blockbuster franchise, it doesn't bode well for the studio.
@VioletEyedDragon: Everything I see of Dark Shadows doesn't scream box office hit and people saying it's going to do well just sort of baffles me outside of Depp being the star. And I'm at the point where Burton's career path has just left me confused and unsatisfied. To me his last good film was Big Fish, simply because it was a departure to his usual films.
But Dark Shadows is obviously is going to be #2 this weekend with The Avengers probably taking number one again (and it wouldn't surprise me if it had a $100+ second weekend). It was also surreal seeing the box office numbers with The Avengers at $207.4 and Think Like a Man at number two with $8.

Dark Shadows could still do well in its own right even though it won't beat The Avengers. It has a bad release date, though.
I love Big Fish but Burton has made a lot of bad movies. And I have to say that I couldn't stand Johnny Depp in Alice in Wonderland. I can't believe that movie made over a billion dollars.
@RockinKemosabe: Dark Shadows is going to booooomb. The Avengers is going to seriously cut into Dark Shadow's ticket sales. That added with audiences growing tired of Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helena Bonham Carter collaborations, lackluster trailers, no online buzz for the film, and the fact that Dark Shadows is an adaptation of an obscure 40 year old soap opera, doesn't scream box office success. I'm guessing the Tim Burton and Johnny Depp name nets Dark Shadows around 15 million this weekend.

THat's crazy I feel like so many records have been set in the last couple of years which is a good sign for all movies when there is an increase in interest from the general population
a lot of it has to do with inflation. But it is still a good thing.
