Big year is not funny, it's about as funny as my stupid joke in the title line. To me it seemed like someone got 3 funny leading men: jack black, steve martin, and wilson and several other funny people in supporting roles. Than they had someone come up with the stupid idea of these 3 men rushing across the country to spot as many different birds as possible, seems stupid right. I imagine the plan was that at some point all these funny people would at some point put some jokes into the movie. Sadly I watched the whole thing and am still waiting for the FIRST joke. So to be clear this is not a comedy, even though all the actors are funny people, its not a comedy. There are some side plots about Wilson trying to have a baby, Black and his dad getting along and Martin dealing with retirement. Any of that seem funny, its not. The 3 men are competing against one another and almost always in the same place so you might think there would be pranks pulled on each other to slow them down, that also wasn't done.

So if the movie isn't a comedy does register well as a drama? NO. I don't know if it's cause I just kept looking for jokes or because they aren't the greatest actors or the story is just boring. If you are going to watch this movie realize its a drama, forget anything you know about the other movies these guys made. Even marley and me was funny and that's a movie about a dog dying.

The only good thing in this movie is the scenery, there are several beautiful shots for all across America and there far more birds than I ever know about. This whole movie could have been better if it was made by PBS and just a serious documentary about birds and bird watching.
