The Breaking Point (1950)

Edit this Page
Michael Curtiz Director previously directed Bright Leaf

An honest boat captain finds himself strapped for cash and gets pulled into an escalating string of shady business deals which could cost him and his family their lives.

Trivia:

Based on the Hemingway novel 'To Have and Have Not', which was first made into a film starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in 1944. The same novel was later adapted twice more, into 'Wetbacks' (1956) and 'The Gun Runners' (1958). Ironically, Hemingway himself considered it one of his worst books.

Quote: Harry Morgan

[to Lucy] I get teed off sometimes. No sooner do I get my head above water than somebody pushes me down again!
