A different take on the "Cabin in the Woods" formula. Old horror movie clichés with new twists. "The horror movie to end all horror movies."
The film was made in 2009 but its release was delayed because the studio wanted to release it in 3D, even though the writers and director protested. This debate went on for three years until the studio caved and let the film be released only in 2D.

Five young college students make plans to head off to a cabin in the woods for a relaxing vacation. There's Curt, the star of the football team who is dating Pre Med student Jules, their scholarly focused friend Dana who they're trying to set up with the new kid Holden, and their stoner pal Marty who is conspiratorial to say the least. They head off to Curt's cousin's cabin up in the mountains but stop for some gas at a run down pit stop, where an old mysterious man warns them about where they're going. They ignore him and make it to the cabin where they enjoy a night of truth or dare, up until they learn that the cellar door is hiding something sinister.
Soon after entering the cellar they unleash an evil force from within the woods that will hunt them down until they're all dead. But it seems that the greater threat might be coming from somewhere else, as each of the friends begin to feel and act strange, as if some unseen force is at work. So the question is raised, is the evil from the woods the true threat, or is there something more to this cabin?
Cabin in the Woods was shot and completed in 2009, however the film's release was put on hold for three years because the studio wanted to release the movie in 3D, adding the effect in post. However Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard put their foots down and refused to let this movie come out in 3D. The battle over the release continued for the next two years until finally Whedon and Goddard won and the studio released it only in 2D.
Cabin in the Woods quickly became one of the best reviewed films of 2012, scoring a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it also the highest rated wide release horror film since 2009's Drag Me To Hell.

"The lambs have come to the killing floor!" That's a pretty creepy thing to say, assuming you're not talking about actual lambs. And even then... |
