Chris Nolan’s told the LA Times that the third Batman's titled The Dark Knight Rises and it won’t feature the Riddler. So Ed Nigma’s on this club’s “no admittance” list along with Mr. Freeze and the Penguin.
I’m sort-of Screened’s “comic guy” so I'll admit to perhaps having more invested in this, but Dark Knight was one of the few recent movies where I walked out thinking about what I’d like to see in a sequel. Nolan’s denial of the Riddler is actually a relief for me because, honestly, I’d rather see some villains who haven’t gotten a shot in live action instead of the ones who’ve shown up so many times already.
What I’ve really appreciated about this series is that they’ve done things most superhero movies don’t even seem allowed to. Instead of feeling required to show every single character’s origin, for example, they gave us a Joker who's far more fearsome because they never actually explain where he came from.
Along that line, I’ll put on the fantasy producer’s hat and say I think the perfect route for them to go here would be to have a whole gang of villains--a half-dozen second stringers like Deadshot, Firefly, Killer Croc, Black Mask, the KGBeast and the Ventriloquist--to really fufill the whole super-crime escalation theme. You wouldn't run in to the "too many villains" problem if they just present these bad guys as is. I mean, you don't need much explaining to convey that a dude with machine guns on his wrists is a threat.
