My personal pick would be Bane, because he's a great character (Sort of) that was definitely not treated well by Schumacher. He's fiercely intelligent and amazingly strong. I want to see Batman mentally and physically broken.

Knowing Nolan and how the series has been, Black Mask, Deadshot, Catwoman, and Talia are the most likely to make an appearance.  I would say Hush but that plot needs Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, and Clayface to be in it.

The Caped Crusader would have been great

So what? Are they suddenly not allowed to use it? It's a good title and I think it sounds cooler than Rises.

@Landon: i agree with you... kinda wish they went with the dark knight returns

I don't think the title is too hot, but maybe it'll grow on me. Nevertheless, it's all about the film and I'm looking forward to seeing what villain Nolan whips out.

Robin cast as the Villian? Eh? Anybody? Anybody? Tom Hardy could be a manly tough vigilante Robin who takes things too far.

As for the title: "Dark Knight" needs to be in there somewhere because the last one was such a huge god damn hit, you really need to drive in the fact that this is the second "Dark Knight" (even though this is the third Batman movie by Nolan)

How about someone who does somthing violent.

Please change the name. A long title doesn't suit Nolan's style and makes it sound cheap :(

I second Mr. Zsasz.

I don't mind the name at all, the impact of The Dark Knight is undeniable so keeping that in the title makes sense, I have COMPLETE faith in Nolan as long as he has full creative control.  But I have just two concerns.  1.)  I don't know how they're going to top Heath Ledger's Joker (and of course he's not gonna be back so that's a letdown) and 2.)  How many THIRD entries in any series do you know that are decent.  Of course I'll draw your attention to such franchises as Spider-Man, The Godfather, The Matrix, I can go on and on and on and on.

Yet I'm still optimistic, and actually impatient.  The Dark Knight is one of my favorite movies of all time, which I actually find surprising still.  It's not just a great Batman movie...it's a great movie period.  I never saw that coming.  Team Nolan, GO!

I'm glad that they aren't going with the Riddler.  I'm not sure how I'd react if they include Catwoman (it really depends on how she's included and depicted), but given the tone of Nolan's films, Talia would probably make the most sense, as it would provide a connection back to the first film.  I'm not sure that B-tier villains like Deadshot would be that big of a draw, and a character like Killer Croc seems too fantastical for the Nolan take on Batman.

That being said, despite the chances of her appearance being zero, I'd love to see a Nolan version of Harley Quinn.  There's really only ever been one take on the character since her inception in the animated series from the '90s.

I was really hoping that it would be called "The Caped Crusader"

Oh well, I'm still super excited.

It makes sense that the Riddler is not in it. Think about it, The Joker was basically the Riddler in the Dark Knight.

I love Chris Nolan, no 3-D is a winner for me!

Unless, of course, they decide to convert after filming but that would be a horrible idea!

Killer Croc would do well and so would Catwoman, The relationship between Batman and Cat Woman would be awesome to see in a Nolan film.

  1. Return of the Jedi
  2. Indiana Jones The Last Crusade
  3. Die Hard with a Vengeance
  4. LOTR Return of the King
  5. Austin Powers Goldmember
  6. Bourne Ultimatum
  7. Army of Darkness
  8. Toy Story 3
  9. maybe more?

Obviously this is subjective (especially depending on your feeling on George Lucas and the LOTR series), but I would say that is a pretty comprehensive list.

No I agree with over half of that list, I actually thought of Return of the Jedi right after posting, but those are rare.  You listed 8, but my point was that good franchises even when they have a strong second entry often go way downhill after the third one, or just lose sight of what they were even setting out to do in the first place.  But, there's a good argument in what you said, Lucas had creative control over all the original Star Wars, and they all turned out great.  Even though I'm not a big LOTR fan you could say the same for Peter Jackson and that franchise, often a series goes bad due to some outside force, or changing directors or writers or something like that, like when they went from Tim Burton to Joel Schumacher in the "original" Batman movie series.  Studios look at things financially, they don't care if movies suck as long as they make lots of money.  Luckily for us, Nolan's movies make lots of money as well as being generally good movies, so I guess this movie could only really fail (for me) if he just decided to half-ass it, and that doesn't sound like Nolan at all.  Or if he makes some really bad casting decisions or something but I'm keeping an open mind.

@fishinwithguns: Yeah I can fly with that.  If I was purely a gambling man, I'd bet the next Batman movie to be good or really decent at worst.

Why you say? I've yet to see Nolan make a bad movie (starting with Memento, I an unknown of his previous work if any). I'd rather hedge my bets with that than going with the movie sequels curse.
Post by fishinwithguns (210 posts) See mini bio
@heatdrive88: Exactly, my least favorite Nolan movie so far was The Prestige, but not a bad movie by any means.  Before Memento he did a movie called "Following," which I saw pretty recently, very low budget, no stars yet still really good (even at a runtime of about 70 minutes).  That's his first movie as far as I know, if you have Netflix you can stream it from there.  If you watch it, look out for the Batman logo prominently displayed on someone's door, haha...pretty interesting I think.

You're right, The Dark Knight succeeded critically and financially because Nolan wasn't thinking "I've got to make a great Batman movie," or "I've got to make a great sequel," he was just thinking "I've got to make a great movie."  He didn't run through any tried-and-true conventional sequel formula, he made a good movie that stands well enough on its own yet is more significant when put together with the first.
