Are the rumors regarding Strange in the movie and his appearance in the game coincidence?
It was revealed last night at the Spike Video Game Awards that the principle villain of the next Batman game, Batman: Arkham City, will probably be Dr. Hugo Strange. If he is not the primary antagonist, then at the very least, the game trailer suggests he will play a prominent role in the story. Do you think that his inclusion is a sign that Christopher Nolan's villain will also be Hugo Strange as rumors have suggested? Is this a case of cross-media synergy or just a coincidence?
The previous Batman game, Batman: Arkham Asylum was a substantial success both critically and financially. Selling nearly 4 million copies worldwide according toVGChartz, and the sequel is expected to do equally as well. Arkham City is slated to arrive in stores for the holiday season of 2011. The Dark Knight Rises will be out the following year in 2012. It seems that this could be a platform to get people informed and excited about Hugo Strange as a villain since he is not among the more infamous characters comprising Batman's rogue gallery.
I have to wonder, did Nolan find out about Rocksteady's (the game's development studio) plans and adjust accordingly or was this a case of "great minds think alike"? Of course, if all the rumors regarding Strange being the film's villain are false, then none of this means anything.
