It might make more than the Avengers

Take this by heart but according to Nuke the Fridge it tickets sales currently stand at 150 million. It has three weeks left and some people don't even get their tickets until the release date of the movie they want to see.

I loved the Avengers but I think it would be impressive if the Dark Knight somehow managed to beat it's record (not saying it will). In part because the Dark Knight is not in 3D and because it's longer than the Avengers so there are less showings.

I think that it'll be close but I'm not sure whether it'll beat The Avengers record. Like you said, The Avengers had the added benefit of the 3D premium and it opened at the beginning of summer as the first big blockbuster. The Dark Knight Rises is opening in the middle of blockbuster season, mainly after The Amazing Spider-man. I just hope that this doesn't lead to a whole lot of fanboys screaming that their franchise is better because it made more money, but it probably will...sigh.

It has the potential. It could.

I ain't a betting man.

It could do it, but I think that it will sell more tickets than the Avengers but it won't make more money simply because about half the Avengers tickets were in 3D and cost more.

HA! HA HA HA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH-

No.

Or, less assholishly, this is not happening. And when it doesn't happen, people will consider the movie a complete failure, even though it'll likely open with over $120 million.

I definitely think this movie will sell more tickets just not sure about if they'll make more money

It'll sell a lot of tickets but it won't make what The Avengers made. Nolan's Batman films don't have the wide appeal that The Avengers did. The Avengers was the kind of the film you could even take kids to see but The Dark Knight Rises isn't and that's going to impact the box office numbers for the film.

@CrimsonAvenger: That is why nearly every one of the Nolan Batman films has had a larger opening then the last and The Dark Knight nearly became the biggest movie of all times.  A lot of parents don't really care about the content of a film and just its rating.  If they cared about content then a movie and book series where teenagers murdered each other for the enjoyment of the wealthy elite wouldn't have done nearly as well as it did.

I'm not saying The Dark Knight Rises will beat The Avengers but if any movie stands a chance it is this one.

It is definitely gonna open over at least $150 million. It might not beat The Avengers--though it could--but there is no way this thing opens below $150 million. I guarantee it.

@jackanderson: I think you should stick with that 120 million number for the box office league, it'll only be one more point that I'll take away from you :P

It's not in 3D, meaning ticket prices will be cheaper...which makes it nearly impossible to make more money than Avengers.

@jackanderson: I think posting footage of a comedian's set that isn't part of a comedy special or taken without their permission is wrong.  Like worse then pirating music or movies.

@Ghost_of_GhostDad: Oh. Sorry. I didn't know. I just saw this clip on YouTube and thought it'd fit. I apologise.

@CrimsonAvenger: Never underestimate Batman. He's Batman after all.

If Nicolas Cage was in the movie, maybe....MAYBE.

@jackanderson: That was only brought to my attention because a few years ago when I went to see Sarah Silverman.  Her opening act was Todd Glass who verbally assaulted this guy for recording his set on his cell phone.  He made an impressive argument on why it was wrong.
I didn't mean to come off all high and mighty I just don't want Todd Glass to hunt me down and humiliate me in front of a large crowd.  Dude is kind of scary and would cut me to pieces with his razor sharp wit.
Mini Review: Sarah Silverman was pretty disappointing live but Todd Glass is amazing.

Even if tracking is right, and it makes more than TDK opening weekend, there isn't a hope in hell it'll finish anywhere near Avengers.

@Ghost_of_GhostDad: It's quite alright. My rule is that if the show explicitly states anywhere that you are not allowed to record the performance on any device (phone, camera, etc.), then you damn well shouldn't. Though I do see where the dude is coming from.

Also, I've never particularly liked Sarah Silverman, personally. I just never found her funny. Don't know why.

Anyways, back to the main topic!

This is very true. I saw some 5 year-olds in a screening of 21 Jump Street. Parents these days....
