I love the Avengers but I would love to see the Dark Knight Rises eclipse it...I-I'm not sure why...
Perhaps as a way to flip off 3D...

This article says it tracking higher than the Avengers.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is among the all-time highest scoring movies in "tracking" just days before it launches. The percentage of potential moviegoers who list the picture as their first choice among upcoming releases is six points higher than that of "The Avengers" on the Monday before it opened, and seven points higher than "Hunger Games."
Box Office Mojo predicts the opening weekend of the Dark Knight Rises to be 214 million (without 3D),

Comic Book Movie (not a completely reliable source) says the Dark Knight Rises has a 25 million midnight showing pre-sales. If that's completely true, that's even bigger than the Avengers 20 million pre-sales.

Although the movie itself didn't do as well the Avengers, I'd still consider the following to be an achievement in it's own right:
"TDKR did about as well as expected, grossing $36.4 million. That was about a 41 percent drop from last weekend. Its domestic total now stands at $354.6 million, making it the third-fastest film to reach that mark. It took The Avengers 10 days to do that earlier this summer and 2008’s The Dark Knight 14 days." - David S. Levine
