Another day, another Batman rumor or two. Let’s start off with some Tom Hardy news. It’s been rumored that Hardy might be playing Hugo Strange in The Dark Knight Rises, but the folks over at Ain’t It Cool are saying their source believes this isn’t just a rumor… it’s a fact.
“It seems that Chris & Jonathan Nolan and that David Goyer have been digging deep for the villain. In fact, Batman first went up against this guy in 1940 in the pages of Detective Comics. The word is, Tom Hardy is playing Dr. Hugo Strange, who has a bit of an obsession surrounding The Batman. Strange how common that seems to be in Gotham. In fact - it seems that Nolan and crew are exploiting that great PREY arc that was written by Doug Moench and illustrated by the great Paul Gulacy and Terry Austin - and ran from September of 1990 to February 1991.”
That sounds pretty interesting. Obviously, Nolan will be doing his own personal take on all of this even if it is true. I haven’t read the comics they're referring to, but maybe some of you who have can break it down for me. All I can say is that I’m sure Tom Hardy will hit a home run with whatever role he plays. And if this next rumor is true, we might be finding that out for certain a lot sooner than you think.
David Cohen, an editor from Variety, tweeted this:
If the script really was handed in today, we can expect the Internet to be flooded with leaks in the next few weeks. I do think it’s amusing that even Chris Nolan gets hit with hard deadlines. I don’t think I’d have the panache to put any demands on him.“Chris Nolan told me his ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ script is due Monday or he’s in big trouble. Big trouble? What can they do? Fire him? ”
