I just saw this yesterday, and I can confirm that this review is 100% accurate.

My theater was lucky and got it in it's wide release this past weekend. I'm a sucker for anything Clooney and I thought this was pretty spectacular. I'd rank it high in the best Clooney films, though nothing beats Up In the Air or Michael Clayton for me. I was a bit iffy on the Sid character at first, but he barely exists after his confrontation with Clooney. Not sure if it is something I'll watch again anytime soon, but it is definately one of the year's best.

I watched this during the week as I had to review it it for the college newspaper. I avoided your review as I didn't want to be influenced but I was really surprised you didn't like Sid's character Matt. There were times when the movie was in trouble of getting too caught up in sadness and I thought he did a good job of lightening the mood throughout.

He played that stupid surfer dude great and my friends and I were in stitches at his stupidity/ignorance at times. I felt he really redeemed himself by the end even though his screen presence dwindled considerably.

Thought the movie was excellent overall. Clooney in particular was wonderful. He made Matt's character feel so real, I'd put it up there with his best performances.
