Even though he's not the main character the devil or satan character is often more charismatic than anyone else in the film.
This cliche is reserved for when Satan (or a very charismatic demon) isn't the main character but leaves more of an impression than the leading protagonist. The best example really is Peter Stormare's performance in Constantine or even Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate.
