The Avengers find themselves stranded in different Asgardian realms, while Loki attempts to conquer Earth. Part 2 of a 3-episode season finale.
After the events of the previous episode, Hawkeye awakens to find himself in the middle of a mysterious forest with elves riding horse frantically around him. Find a clearing in the woods, Hawkeye reveals that the forest is actually on the edge of the cosmos. He soon learns he is in Alfheim, the realm of the High Elves. Dire wolves in the service of Loki then emerge from the forest, ready to attack the archer.
In Asgard, Loki explains to a bound Thor how Odin entered into the rejuvenating Odinsleep without Thor present to protect Asgard during his father's slumber. Loki reveals that he has taken Odin's great magical ability, the Odinforce, for himself and thus was able to conquer Asgard. Using the Odinforce, Loki conquered most of the Nine Realms, with only Midgard--or Earth--left to take over.
In Jotunheim, the realm of the Frost Giants, Hank Pym attempts to revive the Wasp, still unconscious after their altercation with the Abomination back on Earth. Several Frost Giants come across Pym and threaten him. Much to their surprise, self-avowed pacifist Pym takes up one of the Frost Giant's own axes against them, charging into battle in his Giant Man form.
In Nifleheim, the Realm of the Dead, Captain America attempts to contact the other Avengers when specters of the old members of the Howling Commandos squad appear all around him. The ghosts begin to question why Captain America left them behind to die in battle, abandoning them.
The Hulk awakes to find himself in Vanaheim, where orcs under Loki's command hold several magical residents hostage. Wielding the axe of Skurge the Executioner, the Hulk does battle with the orcs. Meanwhile, Black Panther finds himself in the desolate Svartalfheim. Once the home of the Dark Elves, it is not inhabited only by dark spirits, that begin to chase the Black Panther.
Iron Man awakens in Nidavellir, the Realm of Dwarves, being dragged by a pair of dwarves and led by Eitri, the King of the Dwarves. Iron Man lost his armor other than one gauntlet on his right hand, and he reasons that destroying the Norn stone has transported him (along with the other Avengers) to various Realm connection to Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Before the dwarves and Iron Man can reach safety, a giant rock troll named Ulik attacks, wiping out two of the dwarves quickly. Iron Man challenges the troll, using his gauntlet to knock the monster back.
In Alfheim, Hawkeye's bow is broken in the battle with Loki's wolves. Fortunately before the monsters can get him, he is rescued by an elf named Faradei. Meanwhile, The Hulk continues to do battle with Loki's orcs in Vanaheim. In Hel, Captain America is still haunted by the ghosts of his past, and is told that his time to rest has come at last while a magical staircase appears for him to climb.
Thor accuses Loki of being responsible for the incident with the Norn stones, only for Loki to reveal he is responsible for everything. How he knew Odin would exile him for orchestrating the Frost Giant attack on Asgard. How he forced the argument between Odin and Thor. How he orchestrated the breakout at the various super prisons, keeping Thor busy on Midgard. How Amora the Enchantress formed the Masters of Evil solely to keep Thor busy.
All the while, Loki conquered the remaining realms and claimed the Odinforce as his own. The only fault in Loki's plan was the initial failure to conquer Midgard, blaming Amora's affection for Thor. When Thor argues that the Avengers will save him, Loki informs him that they will be too busy trying to survive in their own realms to rescue him.
In Jotunheim, the frost giants use the Casket of Ancient Winters (which Loki gave them after Amora retrieved it from Earth) to quell Giant Man. Fearing he is about to be defeated, he admits to a still unconscious Wasp that he loves her. He is rescued when a group of Valkyries fly through a portal, helping him escape the Frost Giants.
Black Panther continues to fight off the dark spirits of Svartalfheim, but they only gather more and more powerful. Panther rushes towards a lone well, which turns out to be a portal away from the desolate realm that leads to Alfheim, where he is able to assist Hawkeye and Faradei defeat the dire wolves. Faradei informs the Avengers that there is a ship that can take them to safety.
In Vanaheim, the Hulk is able to finally defeat Loki's orc hordes and frees (almost incidentally) their captives. Among them are the Warriors Three, among the most valiant of Asgard's heroes.
Meanwhile, the ghosts of the Howling Commando unit urge Captain America to enjoy his reward after a hard fought fight. Captain America demands to see his old partner Bucky, and then realizes that the fight he signed up for isn't done. The Howling Commandos disappear, and Captain America becomes aware of the presence of Hela, the ruler of Nifleheim.
Iron Man and Eitri continue to do battle with Ulik.Iron Man eventually defeats the rock troll, but in the process completely destroys what remained of his armor. Realizing he'll need a new suit, Iron Man heads towards the famous Forge of the Dwarves to craft new armor with the assistance of Eitri, who reveals he created Mjolnir, Thor's hammer.
Back in Asgard, it is revealed that Loki has scheduled Thor's execution, signaling the end of the era of Odin as the All Father.
To be concluded...
