Plot
Fred Simmons (Danny Mcbride) is the master of the demo and tae kwon do teacher at a strip mall martial arts school. Fred’s life is going well, as he teaches his students prudently and proudly, as he boasts about being the bets. He gets new students, and trains his apprentices; Henry, who has confidence problems as well as bully ones with another student, and Julio, who doesn’t get any respect from the other kids. Fred has a wife named Suzie, who is a bit rude to Fred. Regardless, the two still love each other. One day, Fred gets home and finds pictures of Suzie cheating on him at her new office job. Fred gets discouraged and goes a bit crazy, emotionally. Fred goes depressed, and attempts to get his authority back, and get things together with the help of old friends and a “hero”. The Foot Fist Way is a dark comedy.
Indie Origins
The Foot Fist Way is the debut film of director Jody Hill, Ben Best, and of course, Danny McBride. It was made on a credit card budget, and shot in 19 days. The film was shot in Concord, North Carolina. The music was done by boom-mic operator Joseph Stephens’ band Pyramid. Pyramid currently has one album out. After not being to successful in being bought at the Sundance Film Festival, director Jody Hill attempted to send a copy to Will Ferrel, and friend Adam McKay. The two automatically love it, and spread it to fellow filmmakers. Will and Adam buy DVD rights, and put out the Foot Fist Way under Gary Sanchez Productions. The movie was advertised by Will secretly bringing Danny onto the Conan O’Brien show in character, purposely making a fool of himself. Now, Will and Adam work with Jody on his HBO series Eastbound and Down with friend David Gordon Green.
