The General is a 1998 movie directed, produced and co written by John Boorman. It is based on a true life story about a gangland crime boss, Martin Cahill, also known as The General. He committed several high profile robberies in Ireland dealing with the terrorist IRA and UVF

Trivia:

The producer/director, John Boorman was actually a victim of the real life criminal Martin Cahill. The robbery is teenagers in the movie where Cahill steals a Gold Record from Boormans house, which he had received for his work on the movie, Deliverance. The scene also shoes Cahill stealing a gold watch from a sleeping woman. Cahill subsequently broke the gold record when necessitate it wasn't actually real gold.
