In the 1960's, a young white woman and aspiring journalist begins to write a book that documents the mistreatment and racism suffered by 'the help' - the black women who cook, clean and look after the children of wealthy families - she also develops a close bond with two in-particular.

Trivia:

The novel on which the movie is based had been rejected 60 times before eventually being published.
