So this will give you a very good idea of what the footage may look like this December (not in 3D though). The footage is from the first trailer, but reconstructed in several software programs that's explained in the post. Of course all movies since the 20s and 30s have been at 24fps, which gives it that filmic quality, making it more distinctive. I think it's not as noticeable when there's someone talking but whenever the are sweeping camera movement or just large gestures or actions going on, everything seems too fast. It reminded me of how I had to turn off all the demo settings on my HDTV when I bought it because the picture was out of synch with my stereo.

What do you think of the quality?

Edit: Sorry I can't embed the video.

It doesn't seem as noticeable in a few shots, like when they are singing around the fire in Bilbo's house while the camera slowly arcs around, but in close ups or medium close ups where there is a lot of movement you can really tell.

I don't like it very much...

I always found higher frame rates while watching movies off putting. It especially looks off with animated films. It's been 24 frames for so long why change it now.

Maybe this is one of those things that will look better once we all get used to it but it stinks that they could end up hurting a great film just cause we aren't used to it yet

I will reserve judgement until I see the film in the cinema but they nailed the music part.

The Hobbit Production Diary 6: More Location Shooting!

The Hobbit's epic 250-day shoot continues apace, but Peter Jackson & Andy Serkis still have time to show off the majestic climes of New Zealand for us.

Set of The Hobbit, or renaissance fair? You be the judge.

Trailer: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Have you heard of this movie? I'm not sure what it's about. I think it's a documentary about little people in New Zealand.

Behind The Scenes On The Hobbit: Middle-Earth In 3D

Peter Jackson lovingly fondles around three million dollars in cameras in this look at the ongoing filming. But some of them are named for dogs, so I can't blame him.
