This movie scares the hell out of me

So I actually just finished reading the last book in the series and I thought they were great, and at first I was excited to hear a movie was being made for the first book...but after thinking about it I realized how terrifying that is.

Without spoiling too much...there is a decent part of the series that revolves around a kind of love triangle. And that is what scares me...that the people who are making this movie is going to look at a movie like Twilight and say "oh, ok let's just focus on the love triangle that is by far the least interesting part in the series because that Twilight movie made like a bazillion dollars".

There is soooo much more to these books that then that shallow "teen soap opera" nonsense. The world that Collins created is pretty incredible.

On a side note the casting of Donald Sutherland and FRIGGIN WOODY HARELSON are two of the best fits in their respective roles I could possible imagine.

The director is a part of some pretty respectable work, I doubt he'll butcher this amazing novel.

@TearsInRain: I hope so

@fresh2deafbill: I suppose we'll have to see what comes up before we can make assumptions.

@fresh2deafbill: That's exactly what I thought when I saw Woody Harrelson was going to be in it. He is going to be amazing in that role

@themw007: I really don't think they could've found someone better...really I don't there is anyone who is better for that role

I've never read any of the books, but the main casting as Jennifer Lawrence is pretty perfect, and despite my passionate hatred of Seabiscuit, it has been given a competent director. I highly doubt it will go the Twilight route of sucking.

I think this movie will be alright as long as Katniss doesn't have a narration because dear lord, she's the most annoying literary character I've ever had the misfortune to read from the perspective of.

Otherwise, like I said, there's some solid material to work from here.

like I said I really hope you guys are right...I really liked the books

Guess what? That's pretty much exactly what they did. Ugh. Left a bad taste in my mouth, which I promptly got rid of by re-watching Battle Royale.

People will exaggerate the "love triangle" on their own if that's their thing. It makes me think if LOST, actually. Thousands of fans were passionate about whether Kate should end up with Jack or Sawyer. It was definitely part of the story, but the show never made the romance the entire raison d'etre like something like Twilight apparently did.

So hopefully The Hunger Games can go the same route. Treat the romance as improtant as it is, but not solely important, and those who wish to get caught up in it can if they want to. The rest of us can just enjoy it in its entirety.

I just watched it with my girlfriend. None of us have read the books, but i was actually surprised. Its not bad at all, the love triangle we felt was done to a minimum. Sure there's some, but it really didn't bother me. Also the Battle Royale vs hunger games debate is understandable but for me both have strenght and weaknesses. I love BR but i also highly enjoyed the 140 min i spend with Hunger Games. And i promise you, its NOT Twilight at all. Here we have some really interesting characters, story, setting, and a script that keeps a fairly high pace. The main characters are not the, in the words of Rorie, "stupidest three characters in movie history".

Trailer 3: The Hunger Games

After reading these books, I'm curious as to how they're going to faithfully adapt the gorier portions into a PG-13 movie, but I guess we'll find out in March. They're certainly not showing much in these trailers.

Trailer 2: The Hunger Games

Running Man with kids? This movie is basically everything I've ever wanted.
