Don Siegel Directed by previously directed Hell Is for Heroes

The second adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's short story. Two hit men kill an ex-racecar hotshot named Johnny North, but are puzzled by the fact that he doesn't try to run when he knows they are coming. They set out on their own to find out who hired them, and why.

Trivia:

Originally created as the first made-for-tv movie, NBC was appalled by its violence and casual amorality, and rejected it. It was subsequently given a theatrical release by Universal.
