The film follows Rannulph Junuh, a ex-professional golfer who is still haunted by the horrors he witnessed in the First World War. He enters a golfing tournement to represent Savanah with the help of the mysterious caddy, by the name of Bagger Vance.

Trivia:

Originally, the lead roles were going to be played by Morgan Freeman and Robert Redford. But, after careful consideration, Redford decided that the movie would work better with younger men playing Rannulph Junuh and Bagger Vance.
