Two brothers, Michael and Sam Emerson, played by Jason Patric and Corey Haim, move to Santa Carla, California and deal with a gang of local teenage vampires. They enlist the help of local vampire hunters the Frog Brothers to defeat them.
Trivia:
The title "The Lost Boys" is a reference to Peter Pan's companions who remained young forever.

Two brothers, Michael Emerson ( played by Jason Patric) and Sam Emerson (played by Corey Haim) move with their mother Lucy (Dianne Wiest) to Santa Carla, California shortly after their parents divorce. The mother and her boys moves in with Lucy's father ( played by Barnard Hughes) who lives outside of town and has a strange hobby for taxidermy.
Santa Carla's town life is centered around their amusement park and boardwalk. The boardwalk has been covered of fliers of missing people. While helping a lost boy find his mother Lucy meets the owner of a local video store who goes by the name Max ( played by Edward Herrmann). Lucy tells Max she has been searching for a job and he offers her a job at the video store. Lucy charmed by Max takes the job offer. While Lucy is talking to Max, Michael and Sam check out the local amusement park. Michael become fascinated by a beautiful mystery girl and he begins to follow her to find out who she is. The next night Michael discovers the mysterious girl, her name is Star ( played by Jami Gertz) and she lives with David, the leader of a gang, ( played by Keifer Sutherland) and his local gang (played by Brooke McCarter, Billy Wirth, and Alex Winter). David challenges Michael to a motorcycle race ending in Michael almost falling for the edge of a cliff. David invited Michael into his home, a cave created by an earthquake. David begins to play mind games with Michael making him believe a box of Chinese food is a box of worms. David tricks Micheal into an initiation by drinking blood telling him it is wine. The gang bring Michael to a set of elevated train tracks, he joins them by hanging under the train track as a train passes slowly one by one the gang lets go falling into the fog. Michael is unable to hold his grip falls into the fall as well but ends up falling into his bed at home not knowing how he got there.
While Michael was with David and his gang the past night, Sam went to the local comic book store there he meets Edgar and Allan Frog ( played by Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander), the Frog Brothers. The Frog Brothers tell Sam how they are vampire hunters and give him a horror comics about vampires to educate himself. Sam does not believe them and thinks the brothers are crazy but still takes the comic home. When Michael comes home he slowly develops into a vampire. Nanook, Sam's dog, attacks Michael when he almost attacks his brother. Sam does not understand why Nanook would bite Michael till he sees his brother has no reflection in the mirror then he believes what the Frog brothers warned him about. Sam panics and calls his mother disturbing her on her first date with Max. Michael convinces Sam he is not a full vampire.
Sam turns to Edgar and Allan the Frog Brothers and give them a call. They suggest to kill Michael but Sam refuses their advice. They began to think of a way to save Michael since he is not a full vampire. Their solution is to kill the head vampire. The boys begin to think Max is the head vampire since he had started dating Sam's mother Lucy. Lucy invited Max to her home making him dinner to make up for the previous date that was ruined by Sam's panicked phone call. The boys believe the dinner is a perfect timing to find out if Max is the head vampire. Max comes to the door to find Michael who invited him in as he leaves the house. The boys prepared a series of tests for Max. They switch the cheese with grounded garlic and cover him in holy water. After going through the tests he appears to normal and greatly embarrassing Lucy at the dinner party. At the time of the dinner party Michael discovers he can fly and goes to Star for help. While visiting Star he questions her about his physical changes after some time passes the two get close and then they make love.
When Michael awakes up David and his gang tells him to follow them. The gang get close a bonfire that a group of surf Nazis are at. David and his gang reveal their true nature to Michael and begin killing and eating the surf Nazis at the bonfire. Michael refuses to join them in killing them and returns to Star, she reveals she is half vampire as well and wants Michael's help. David reveals the true that Michael was suppose to be Star's first kill to make her a full vampire but she would not go through with it. The next day a weak Michael shows Sam and the Frog brothers where David and his gang sleep during the day. The Frog Brothers and Sam intend to kill David and his gang in their sleep but after staking one vampire leads to the awakening of David and the remaining gang members. They barely escape David and his gang while rescuing Star and Laddie, a recently kidnapped half vampire child. The group drives home in their grandpa's classic car.
That night Lucy is on a date with Max and grandpa is out of the house. Sam and the Frog brothers arm themselves with weapons, garlic and holy water. David and the remaining two vampire members of his gang fly to Michael's house and attack starting an epic battle. One vampire attacks the Frog brothers and Nanook jumps on the vampire pushing him into the tub filling with holy water and killing him. The other vampires is killed by an arrow landing him on the stereo and getting fried caused by Sam. Michael battles with David and pushes him into a set of deer antlers killing him. Michael waits to transform back but he does not surprised after killing David which he thought would lead to his transformation to being normal once again.
Max and Lucy arrive, Max sees the dead bodies and reveals he is the head vampire, Sam and the Frog Brothers surprised that he passed the tests at dinner, Max tells how passed them by being invited in by Michael when he had first arrived. Max's plan all along was to make Lucy a mother for his "lost boys", David and his gang, but Grandpa arrives just in time to stop Max from biting Lucy and crashes through the house impaling Max on a wooden board. After Max's death Michael, Star and Laddie return to normal. Grandpa walks to the refrigerator not surprised by anything surrounding him and says, " One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach...all the damn vampires".
