Last night, in case if you haven't heard, the first public screening for Paul Thomas Anderson's long awaited "The Master" happened at the Aero theater in Santa Monica. The screening before that was a DCP showing of The Shining, as they just installed a digital projector in a few weeks back and have been showing it off by screening various films in their remastered form. Before the screening, an usher told us that there would be a surprise screening in 70mm that would start 30 minutes after The Shining ended. Once it ended, it was announced that the movie would be none other than The Master and I flipped a shit. This being by far my most anticipated movie of the year, I turned to my friends and just said "we're staying, we have to stay." Apparently PTA was in the audience with Maya Rudolph, but I didn't see him.
Anyways, the movie was fantastic, and I need to see it again in theaters. And definitely to try to see in on a 70mm projection, it's effing beautiful.
The next morning I checked up movie blogs to see reactions, and this beautifully written tweet I made promptly after seeing the movie was featured on IndieWire and MovieCityNews. Weird.
I kinda just made this to gloat, but if you have any questions about the movie without bordering into spoiler territory I'll try to answer them.
