Having seen a glimpse of his hidden memories, the Silver Surfer questions Galactus angrily. But, Galactus has found a planet with more energy than he has ever encountered - and that planet is Earth! But the Surfer demands that Galactus return his memories, only to be blasted down to the planet below.
When he awakens, he tries to warn the Earthlings to flee, but soon realizes the technology is too primitive. The appearance of the humans unlock more memories of his homeworld Zenn-La
due to the similarities. But in fear, the Earthlings attack him. Although they can do the Surfer no harm, the flooding memories are affecting the Surfer, who falls off his board on a young girl named Frankie Raye and her friend.
After saving them from Galactus' device, the Surfer goes to face Galactus head on, even if it costs him his life. Unable to take on Galactus and his infinite might, the Surfer decides to instead destroy his energy siphoning devices. Meanwhile, Frankie barely escapes a massive tsunami before she is vanishes into thin air.
After battling Galactus to no avail, Galactus concedes and leaves the planet alive, claiming that he does admire the Surfer's strength and courage. But he tells the Surfer that he should consider it a parting gift and that the Power Cosmic will forever be his curse - a brand to remind the people of the universe of the lives he has sacrificed to his former master.
Frankie Raye appears on Galactus' Ship, much to his surprise. Galactus tells her that she possesses a power to find whatever she seeks. With that, he gives her the Power Cosmic, and she becomes the new herald of Galactus - Nova.
The Surfer heads back to Zenn-La, only to see it disappear before his eyes. Galactus has freed him from his duties, but he has hidden Zenn-La from the Surfer so that he will never find it...
