This movie seems like alot of movies we have out, or even more like the show Castle, I say No it isn't

I'm going to say no. A second rate From Hell meets Sherlock Holmes with John Cusack channeling the paycheck-fishing wooden melodrama of bad Nic Cage? I'd rather watch static for the equivalent run time.

It has John Cusask and its not a rom com so I doubt it. I get the Castle reference but Castle is entertaining to an extent but everything I've seen of it dosen't look entertaining just kinda wooden.

@Watcherg44: You can make this into a poll and get some real data.

My vote's for "no" as well. It may sound weird, but he trailers have made me think of the National Treasure movies (but with more murders, I guess). But basically, a group of people, going on a painfully linear path from dull set piece to dull set piece, with no real drama, and then everything somehow works out.

I'd love to be wrong, as I am a GIANT Poe fan, but this one just seems way too "by the books".

I'll say no too. This looks like a Sherlock Holmes clone and that is kind of ironic; one of Edgar Allen Poe's stories was the inspiration for the creation of Sherlock Holmes.

No. As people have said, it looks like a poor clone of Sherlock Holmes.

I just saw it, and it was pretty disappointing. I haven't even read any Poe (something I feel I should rectify), but Cusack really doesn't seem to be the right fit for the role. Or maybe it was poor directing. He just doesn't convey any sense of the deep sorrow or depression which characterized the man, and comes off more as a snarky literary snob. The plot is bone dry and by-the-numbers; not so much bad as it is just lifeless and dull. There are a few moments of humor I liked (one where Poe quips: "If I had known my work would inspire such feverish imitation, I would have focused more on eroticism") and some of the sets ooze a nice sense of brooding moodiness.

But it was just plain dull overall. Not pulpy enough to be fun, too bland and thin to work dramatically. Not the greatest introduction to Poe for a newcomer.

I swear there was a movie or maybe a TV show where a fictional movie similar to The Raven was made the butt of jokes.  If you know what that is from I would appreciate it.
