Hello everybody, and welcome to a very, VERY special episode of Screened.com's Screening Room! This week we are going to be partaking of one of the absolute greatest action films of all time, The Rock! That might sound like hyperbole, but sincerely, can you honestly say to yourself that this movie didn't thrill the living hell out of you the first time you saw it? Can you name a better Michael Bay extravaganza? Has Sean Connery ever been more eminently quotable? Nope, nope, and nope!

If you're new to the Screening Room, here's the deal: you'll need to get yourself a copy of The Rock and queue it up around 3:50 PM PST. We'll start watching the film around 4 PM and will be broadcasting our little commentary on our Justin.tv channel. To be clear, we're not broadcasting the film itself, just a camera feed of us watching and discussing it; you'll need to provide your own copy of The Rock if you want to watch along, and as the film is on Netflix Instant Streaming, that shouldn't be too difficult.

Of course, that's optional - if you like, you can simply sit around in the Justin.tv chatroom and talk mess about the movie. We'll also be giving a few copies of the movie away, so stay tuned for a bit of trivia during the film itself! There'll also be an archived version of the stream on Justin.tv later on, so don't fret if you can't watch along live.

I'm sitting here trying to think of things to talk about when it comes to The Rock, but so many different elements are swimming through my mind right now that my head kind of wants to explode. There's just so much awesome on display here! I mean, this is the ultimate Michael Bay movie, filled with incredible action sequences, delightfully cheesy dialogue, and so much scenery chewing from the likes of Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris that it's a wonder there was a set left by the end of this thing. And Connery's no slouch either, giving one of his trademark charming performances, even as shit blows up real, real good around him.

But enough about my stupid brain and all the Rock thoughts running through it, I want to know what YOU think about The Rock. What's your favorite action sequence? Is this one of the best San Francisco movies of all time? Have you gone home and fucked the prom queen lately? Tell us everything that's on your mind regarding this fabulous film while you await 4PM Pacific with rapt anticipation!

Gentlemen, welcome to The Rock!

Update: HEY GUYS! Want to get your chat on? Then why not try out our brand new Screened chat room? It's super sweet! And probably buggy! But who cares! TOP MEN!

I actually watched this movie for hte first time last week and wow. How the hell does Michael Bay have a directing career? During the first action part where they are getting the green balls of virus or whatever, I LITERALLY had no idea what the hell was happening. Slow motion, zoomed in, shaking camera. UGH!!!

Hell yeah THE ROCK! This is THE definitive must-watch Michael Bay movie! My favourite scenes is the opening where Hummeler and his soldiers infiltrate a military base and the shower room. Plus Hans Zimmer is the greatest composer ever!

So, is the Screening Room basically reserved for over the top 90's action flicks? Just curious.

My favorite action sequence is a three way tie between the mine cart scene, the opening sequence and the shower scene.  Both are great for different reasons but all are awesome.

I cringe every time they obliterate that Ferrari.

@Lemon:
Having seen this movie about 100 times, it's a Ferrari 355, one of my Favorite Ferraris of all time.
Though in reality it probably was a Fiero they blew up.

The line is "hey man you just fucked up your Ferrari!"
Nic Cage: "It's not mine" *throws dude off moped*.

CUT ME SOME FRIGGIN' SLACK!

One of the best/worst Nic Cage lines ever.

Dude, much as I loathe most of Michael Bay's work, The Rock is easily his most watchable, enjoyable movie.

You can pretty much tell what's happening in all the action sequences, and there's some real awesome bits, like the humvee chase and the mine-cart sequence that barely makes sense!

Amazing film. One of the things I like the most is how the camera makes a woosh sound when it moves and also:

I only seen this film for the first time about 2 years ago and it was  throughly enjoyable, the bit where he mentions aliens makes me cringe though.

I think this might be my second favorite movie of all time (behind Raiders of the Lost Ark).

Stanely Goodspeed is such a great name for a character.

I also love the parts that highlight how Connery's character is English yet he just can't be arsed doing an English accent.

"This summer... Get ready to Rock!"

Dear lord that's awful. That's a 90s movie trailer if I've ever seen one.
