Haha. That's the Simpsons alright. Only things anyone ever mentions about it now is what celebrities are on it or things like this ... because there's nothing else of any interest within to talk about.

I have been starting to watch The Simpsons again after ignoring it for about 10 years.  Seems that's a good way to not hate it, just don't watch it for a long time.  Last nights episode was great for one reason.  Vodka Mayonnaise.  Poor future Homer, I do not envy that guy.

They did a lot of similar stuff back in the day, making fun of Rupert Murdoch and the animators, nothing new, except it's way longer and not as funny and also the internet

A bit of fear and self-loathing in Springfield, I see. 
 
Anyway, that is just really strange for a company would do this to themselves. Naturally most people won't notice or care, but there must be a few people who were quite put off by this.

You gotta imagine that despite how conservative Fox is, they probably let the Simpsons writers do pretty much whatever they want at this point.  It's like the longest running series ever, and a staple in pop-culture worldwide.  
 
Kinda similar to how Comedy Central lets South Park get away with so much because taking a risk with that show is what put them on the map in the first place.

I'm pretty sure it was included in the original contract, thanks to James L Brooks. He had such a great reputation for successful Tv that he was able to get Groening creative freedom. This story has been told numerous times on various commentaries.
