I'm not sure what it says about me that of my top five favorite movies, three of them are John Carpenter flicks starring Kurt Russel (The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, and Escape from NY.)

I... I'm just going to go ahead and assume it means I have excellent taste and am pretty much beyond reproach when it comes to matters of cinema.

Such an amazing film and maybe the best pick for this category yet!

agreed! I dunno if i'd crown it okay, yeah I would it's my favourite horror movie. The original Halloween might tie it, though, and wouldn't you know - another Carpenter movie.

i showed this to a friend of mine for the first time and the faces she was making during the more horrific parts were priceless. she didn't really know anything about the movie past the general idea of "alien horror movie", and when the dog turned inside out I wish i had a camera on hand to capture her surprise. brought me back to the first time I saw it when I was fourteen and had no idea what the hell it was about.

we Norwegians are allowed to say this move has ONE flaw:

the accent in this scene is laughably bad (to us)

Unlike the creatures in Predator or Aliens, the organism in this film still freaks me the fuck out. Although, I'm sure watching the remake would remedy that.

I am not one to be picky, just want to point out that the John Carpenter version of The Thing is a remake as well.

The original movie was called "The Thing from Another World". You can see footage of the original movie in Carpenter's first movie "Halloween"

I don't know, Exorcist III jump scare is the best imo.

Besties: The Thing

Alex, Irresistible to the charm of Kurt Russell, inducts John Carpenter's The Thing into the Besties.
