Note that this is only in SD for now. I'll update with an HD version when I find one.

Love the tones at the end of the trailer, mimicking the original (80's not the 50's one). I think this could be decent and I really hope it is. Carpenter's Thing is still one of my favorite practical effects horror flicks of all time.

So...Ramona Flowers = Kurt Russell?

I can imagine her saying (while holding the flamethrower) "This is what you get for not seeing Scott Pilgrim in theatres!"

It looks OK. It's hard to tell at the moment, since they're marketing to the horror crowd and we won't really know quality until we actually see it. I mean, if you had said that Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead would be a very good film, I wouldn't have believed you before it came out. Plus, it's written by Ronald D. Moore who's done a bunch of the recent Trek shows and of course, Battlestar.

@Milkman: No, no... it is Lucy McClane. Makes more sense now.

*sigh* Im getting really sick of remakes, even if I like Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ulrich Thomsen.

Wonder if the danish actors are gonna play norwegians.

Do we need a sequel? It's only been 30 years! The original is watchable by today's standards and still great!

I guess it's not so bad to give away that much in a trailer when it's a prequel to another movie where we've already learned these things. What's the excuse for other movies that do this?

Could use a few more beards and big hats, but otherwise, doesn't look half bad.

i hope im not jumping the gun, but im actually quite looking forward to this, but with a bit of luck they'll concentrate more on the horror aspects then the action ones, i like the tone i got from the trailer though

The original is one of my favorite films ever and I didn't mind a prequel/remake to it but I had hoped it would be more of a prequel than a straight up remake.  Lots of shots in the trailer look identically the same as the original which is a disappointing to see. It could still be decent but I have a bad feeling.

My feelings exactly. From the trailer it appears to be nothing more than a remake with different characters and no new ideas. My expectations have plummeted accordingly.

The definition of insanity doing THE same THING over and over again expecting different results.

They should've just made a straight up sequel, or remake. Not a prequel that resembles the 80's version.

Think of it this way, why would the Alien fall for the same tricks twice. According to the trailer the same events apparently happened twice. So this thing must be stupid to be defeated twice.

mmm i don't complain about remakes....but why.  Why? Why. I imagine it will be similar to Carpenter's but now with a woman, crappy CGI effects, and a happy ending.  Lots of being grabbed by something off camera, loud noise, and screaming in this trailer. I'll just watch the original remake instead!

Don't you mean John McClane's daughter?

I'm with Tartarus and positron. I really loved Carpenter's The Thing for two reasons:

1) Concept. Psychological scares and paranoia out in the middle of no where? Genius idea. No need to write in stupid cops or dumb military people or anything.

2) No jump scares or cheap tricks. You see The Thing in plain daylight early on in the movie. The scary parts were thinking who was The Thing and just the immense grossness of the actual design itself.

This movie doesn't seem to have either really. It just looks like a Slash flick that hides the villain and focuses more so on jump scares. Makes me wish they just re-released the original in theaters, I'd see it again with friends. Also the fact that they replaced Kurt Russell with Ramona Flowers just screams producer "how can we make this more marketable? I KNOW! Let's add a girl." Lame.

a remake of a remake.  not even calling it something else.
